400ex and 250r thumb throttle

i want to put a thumb throttle back on my 86 250r it has twist and i dont like it. i cant seem to find a 250r thumb throttle so will a 400ex one work. alos is the cable for the twist and thumb the same

The cables are different for twist to thumb. Now for the throttle, your best bet is to get the thumb throttle off of a 300ex, it will give a lighter pull, and is cheaper. You can probably find someone on the classified or ebay selling one because of switching to twist. Dave

You'd be best off using a stock thumb throttle; it has the cantilever inside so that you can pull the slide on the carb all the way. If you want an easier pull, leave out the spring. You probably can't buy a complete one at the dealer, buying one in parts would cost about $200, but a salvage yard should have them complete in good condition for about $50.
Go to http://pub20.ezboard.com/bhondatrx250r and ask there. I got one from there for $20!
No, the cable won't fit from the twist. New stock ones cost about $40 because they come with the top of a stock carb.
