I have posted a couple of times and am still basically trying to decide between the following Vinson 4x4 500, Eiger 400 4x4 manual, Prairie 650. I know there are major differences. What I will be doing is mainly riding double, some trail riding , but mostly hunting use. I need some help with my decision.I have never owned an automatic. Seems like this is the wave of the future. Are they really better and easier, more dependable?

I've seen several of your posts. I have an Eiger 4x4 5-speed. My brother has a Prairie 650 and I've spent some time on it. And I have this story about riding double on the Eiger/Vinson:

Last time I was at my dealers, a guy traded in his Eiger 4x4 5-speed (under 300 miles) to get a Vinson. The story was he always rode double with his wife and they in turn always rode with some friends who rode double on a 660 Griz. They could not keep up with the Griz, so he traded and moved up to a Vinson.

Of the three, the 650 would be best for doubles. Aside from the power, it has the longest seat. One possible downfall is the suspension on the 650 is soft enough that with two on board there is quite a bit of drop. My Eiger holds the weight of two better than the 650, but the 650 is rated for more rear rack load.

Any of the three can do the job, but obviously the bigger engine will pull that load better. It depends on how fast you want to go while pulling two. Beyond that, I'd check to see how well two can fit on the seat and of course, the all important price.

Out of your choices I would go with the P650, I really wouldnt go with the first year Suzuki models. They went from having a utility quad with 15 gears to high and low. Also think about a Kodiak, for just power and some speed its a good deal

I've driven the Vinson and really liked it. The power is great, speed is good as well. Its my parents that have the Vinson, now let me tell you my story.

Last weekend my Stepfather on the Vinson and me on my Kodiak went out on a 118 km ralley. We drove speeds of 40-50km/h all day. We had no problems to keep up with one another. When we went to the gas station to fuel up, I filled my bike for 8.22 (69.9 cents/liter) and the Vinson was filled for 8.66. So the bottom line was that the atv's were very equal. And as far as automatic ATV's are concerned I LOVE IT. Your never in the wrong gear for the terrain. So you really don't have to worry about power as long as you stay in the 400-500cc range. Maybe if you would upgrade the tires to big heavy tires then the 500 would haul it easier. One thing though, his suspension is a bit smoother that my Kodiak's.

Hopefully that helps some

Kodiac400,
Most of my riding will be with a passenger and I have read several posts that say the inson will bottom out and is not good for two. I have narrowed down my choices to it or the P650. I really like the looks of the Vinson, but am not sure about the carrying capabilites?
I know it would be better on fuel than the P650.
