That depends on the type of riding that you do.

If you just want speed for the dunes then you can get a pipe, cam, bigboar kit, and a high compretion piston, But if you MX then you you want to spend the money on the suspention first. I know some people won't agree but just ask the Pros MX'ers and they'll tell you that a better suspention will get you farther.

In march 2001 DirtWheels had a Pipe shoot out for the 400EX and in the Feb 2002 issue of ATVaction they did a "tips and tricks" article for the 400EX. Both very informative.

Good Luck.

I put on a Paul Turner Fat Boy 4 complete pipe and silencer. I put on a K & N Filter and a split fire spark plug. I cannot believe the difference in Power and Torque. I can lift a Wheelie in the first 3 gears. My buddy has a 2002 Raptor he just bought and with the new pipe we are pretty close to top speed. I smoke him on the corners though. I'm thinking about the Edelbrock Carb and possibly the Paul Turner 440EX National Kit. I need to save $ though. But for around $700 you can have a rippin machine with the Complete Pipe, K & N Filter, Spark Plug and new Jetting. Good Luck.
