400 Sport bogs at low rpm??
#1
I just installed the RCR stage 1 kit and am very impressed with the performance increase. The only problem, other than the extremely loud silencer(or is it an amplifier), is a low rpm bog. If I try to launch at full throttle when the rpms settle down to idle sometimes it will just bog and go WAAAAAA, without moving. It seems as if it is too rich and flooding the engine, but it runs great other than that. The kit came with a 260 and a 270 jet and since it is pretty cool here still I installed the 270. Should I try the 260 or is the problem elsewhere?

Rockey,
You might try checking the reeds and reed valve. Also check for leaks in the intake system (cracks in the intake manifold, etc.) It might not hurt to try and go down a size in jetting. If that makes the problem worse, you need to go to a 280 or larger jet for the colder weather. The pilot jet might be a cause of trouble, also try moving the clip on the needle to see if it will help. The VM34SS Mikuni carb that comes stock isn't exactly known for it's throttle crispness, either.

Sounds like great suggestions Mike. Its too coincidental that this happened as soon as I installed the kit. I'm thinking along the lines of maybe a loose boot clamp on the carb like you mentioned. I'll check it when I get home. or maybe some dirt in the carb, but I did clean it with brake cleaner before I reassembled it. Thanks for the suggestions.

I have that same problem. I also only have the Rcr stage 1 kit. When I floor it from a standstill, trying to wheelie, it bogs down, but this is only sometimes.
I live in Texas, so right now, The weather is 80 degrees one day, and 30 degrees the next.
I have not changed the needle clip position at all, should I?? I have the 30 pilot that comes with it, and a 270 main jet. Should I move the needle up, or down??
