Some time ago in Dirt Wheels, a manufacturer showed off a nice front rack at an ATV show. They make both a front and rear rack for around $80 (at least a year ago they did). Here is the info...

If you cant find one made for the 400ex, you might be able to adapt one from another quad or 3wheeler. My son wanted one for his trx 90, so I simply took the one off of a ATC 185s that is setting around for parts. Just had to drill some holes in a couple of pieces of 1 1/2" flat metal to adapt it to the rear grab bar, and didnt cost much. You might be able to look behind a dealers shop and find one in his salvage machines that you could adapt easily and for a reasonable price.

I know a guy with a Raptor who made his own rack. It was HUGE! He said he saw all those guys with six-pack racks, and thought they were no good. He wanted a two-four-rack. And I think he could've easily fit a 24 case of beer on it.
Too each his own.

CMP makes front and rear racks for the 400ex. You can buy them from www.rockymountainatv.com ($69 for the rear). I bought one for my wife's 300ex, and was very happy with it. The only down side was that you had two drill two small holes in the rear plastic for the front "legs" of the rack to go down through. This meant that you had to take the rack half way off to get at the air cleaner (the rear plastic has to come off to get to the air cleaner on the 300ex and 400ex). I haven't actually seen the 400ex rack, but I think that it's the same. I bought a Kolpin padded bag that goes on and off the rack easily, has padded dividers in it, and attaches via velcro straps-works great! The rack is just the right size, about 11 by 32 inches, smaller than normal utility racks...I have a picture that I could Email you, I don't have a hosting server set up to display it here.

Good luck,
Lorrin

Hi,

I just recived the Rocky Mountain ATV Catalog and saw a big rear rack for just about every ATV and i saw there was one for the 400ex so you can check out link at http://www.rockymountainatv.com click on "Catalog" then go down to "Unit" and scroll till you see either "CMP Front Racks" or "CMP Rear Racks" and they have a list of all the ATVs the racks are for. I hope this helped!
