please let me know if I am way off with any of my HP ratings or dry weights... I will edit this post and correct it as I get comments, if I can verify the numbers, thanks... (and NO, all of these quads were not dyno'd, especially on the same dyno) this is a compilation of different reports I have read on websites and magazines; note the word "approximate" below... so please, take this lightly, it's not meant to start a flame war

quads that are close to the same power-to-weight ratios may accelerate faster or slower, or have more or less of a top speed than what you would guess from these numbers; due to their stock gearing which is desinged around their usable power-band

46HP out of a STOCK shee? Yeah right. I doubt a STOCK 250R puts out 39 HP and I'm sure that it weighs more than 329 (stock). In fact, I'm sure the Tecate and Quad Racer don't have that much stock power either and their weight is prolly a little higher as well.

If someone can prove me wrong, feel free, I can admit to being wrong. But I don't think your #'s are right.

I don't know about all of them but I think the 250r is around 365 pounds with 36.1 hp. I would have to be shown a published fact to believe that a production non-race quad weighs under 350 pounds. I also read that the C-dale Cannibal on a dyno runs between 38.5 and 40 hp. The 400ex supposedly dynos between 24.5 and 26 hp and the 250ex around 12. I would have to see it in some kind of reliable print that a stock Banshee makes that much hp at the rear wheels. Maybe at the crank but not at the rear wheels.

Let me clarify on one thing when I say production non-race I mean sport quad that's meant to be somewhat fast like a 250r, tecate, 400ex, raptor, etc. I don't mean like a 250ex or blaster.

I think the dry weight of a Quad Sport 230 {LT230S} is 309 lbs according to my owners manual. My 86 LT230S is much lighter than my Recon or Bayou 220 that are right at 400 lbs. dry. Great post idea!!!

clymer says an 85-88 lt quadracer weighs 327 lbs. It doesnt say anything about hp ratings though. I would think around 30-32 is probably somewhat closer. The same with the stock honda 250r is probably around 30-32hp also.

actually the factory manuals for the LT250r's state the '85-86 weighing in at 298 lbs, the '87-90 is 324 lbs, and the 91-92 is 327lbs.... all dry weights. add about 25-30 lbs for full fluids, including fuel.

ok, thanks for the info guys, I'm fine-tuning the numbers as I go

I'm not changing them to reflect EVERY post, but I am weighing all the information against what I already have, as you all make comments, thanks

The 400ex is 24.5 hp
The Scrambler 400 is like 36 and 481 lbs now
The Scrambler 500 is 40. I've also heard 38. Put it at 38 and it now weighs 513 lbs

a stock TRX250R puts out close to 31 HP, and the 85-86 ATC250R puts out 33 RWHP. The Tecate, and Quadracer both put out more power than the TRX250R
