I heard that after so many hours you have to take it back to the shop for a valve adjustment. Does anyone know how many hours before we have to take it in?

I do mine every 20 hrs. Don't take it to the dealer for a valve adjustment! Do it your self.

It only takes basic tools. Get a Yamaha factory service manual, ($53 + $15 for the 02 update) This is a good way to get to know your quad. The more familiar you are with your quad the better.

Until you do get your manual you can go here to learn how to do your valves yourself. Its easy. $100.00 you'll save you can put towards mods for your bike. Or shoes for your kids but thats no fun.

Dodgerules, It helps to be specific in your post. I thought you were talking about a Raptor so thats what I went by (thats what I get for assuming!).
But the advice still stands, Do it yourself, the familiarity you get from working on your own quads will pay dividends down the road when you break down on a trail, or better yet when you find a hot 16 year old babe broke down & can fix her quad & become her hero!!!
