I just changed the oil and filter for the first time on my 2002 Raptor and put just a little over 2 qts in it. I let it run for a few minutes, turn it off and let it sit, then check the oil and it shows empty, doesn't even register on the dipstick. Started it again for a min. and it still is not showing up. all the oil is still in there, no leaks and the plugs are all in and tight, so do I have to wait and ride it before i can check it or is there a problem with somehing????? Let me know fast, I wanna ride, its nice out I had a DRZ and it was dryt sump too, but I could usually have checked the oil by now........

The correct procidure from the Yamaha factory service manual is,First pour in 1.75L (1.85 US quarts) then start the engine & rev it 3 to 5 times, stop the engine & pour in the rest of the specified amount of oil. The specified amount of oil is,
Total amount, 2.3L (2.43 US quarts)\
Periodic oil change,
With out filter replacement, 1.9L ( 2.01 US quarts)
With new oil filter, 1.95L (2.06 US quarts)

with 2 quarts it should register just a little low on the dip stick. if you drained it good & changed the filter the most you should be is less than a half quart low & it should still show on the dipstick I would think.

I find when I change my oil I end up putting in just under 2 1/2 quarts.

I did the same thing the first time, It's funny till you have to clean up the mess!! Thats why you only put in 1.85 quarts then start it & add the rest.
