Thanks for all of your input on the subject of the 400EX. I bought one yesterday at 3pm cst. It is very nice but as all things it can and will be made better! I would like some websites that I can look at these parts and good reviews prices etc.. I will first address skid plates, I understand the need for a belly pan but why front and rear? It already has them. Nerf bars, Exhaust, Is the stock filter that restrictive?, airbox mods, Are the headlights adjustable, mine aim low? Why do some eliminate the P-brake assy? Steering stabilizer kit? Bumpers, do they really save parts? Are there any stowage devices out there? Thanks..

Congrats! Some peps get the frame skid plate, but the only one you'll probably end up needing is the swing arm skid plate, unless u do a lot of rock climbing, in which case the 400 probably wasn't the best choice.
Nerf bars are awesome, If u end up getting the frame skid plate make sure u get the same manufacturer nerf bars or else you'll end up doing some cutting. I don't know how restrictive the stock air filter is, but drilling some holes in the air box 6 1" holes towards the rear of lid, and dropping in a new K&N of Uni, definately makes a difference. There isn't much adjustment for the headlights, just two screws on the bottom, the lows are supposed to point down about 15' in front of u. People remove the parking brake assembly simply because the parking brake needs to be adjusted everytime u ride your quad, and most people never use it, so to shave a little weight, they take em off. and it looks cleaner. I have a steering stabilizer on mine, and it's pretty nice. It definately gives u more use out of your forearms during a long day of riding. Check out my website for some pics of my 400. http://members.home.net/umcpmark/index.htm
good luck.

400ex'r the question is how much do you want to spend? If I were you I would ride you 400ex and then decide what you need next. If you think you need a little more power maybe you should get a pipe, jet kit and a K&N filter. If the quad is plenty quick and fast enough for you, you may want to look into shocks. You just need to figure out can you ride the bike hard enough that it is holding you back in stock form? I have a 99 400ex and I have a Graydon Proline Big Bore Pipe a Jet kit and a K&N Filter. I have TCS Sag Control Shocks on the Front. Graydon Proline Skids from front to back and believe me they will take a beating. If you are wondering why you need to replace them just go trail riding with that plastic skid plate under the engine and hit one sharp rock hard! The rear skid takes a beating all the time the thin metal stock one that Honda Supplies you end up bending it back into shape all the time. I have an eazy pull clutch lever so that eliminates the the stock perch and the parking brake so that is why most people take off the parking brake and just get a block off plate to cover the parking brake. I have Holeshot tires all the way around and love them. I also have Renthal Bars one roll over and you will know why the stock bars are weak. If I were you the first thing I would do would be get the skid plates and get you quad protected. Second I would get rid of the flimsy stock tires believe me you will blow a side wall out if you try to trail ride on those 2 ply tires. Third I would look into suspension over a pipe or motor work. The suspension will help your fatigue and help you ride harder for longer. Last I would get the pipe and Jet kit and Air Filter that way you would already have the suspension that can handle the new power. You can have all the power you want but if you can't use it what good is it?
