325 Magnum 4x4 or Sportsman 400
#1
I was planning on getting my son the 325 Magnum 4x4 after hearing how well other folks liked theirs. My only remaining concern was if the 325 would be a little under powered so I got looking at the Sportsman 400 and am wondering if I should go that route. We ride trails and sand and get some work out of them around the house. Is IRS and an extra 100cc and a third headlight worth the $800 difference in price between the two?

If you want more power than the 325 buy a Sportsman 500 HO. Do not settle for the 400 because the 500 has double the power for just a little more $ (the 400 and 500 weigh the same-same chasis). I have ridden both the 500 and the 400 and we now have 4 500s. You will LOVE the Independant Rear Suspension and the Speedometer, better ground clearance, and 25" tires on the Sportsmans which the 325 does not offer.
To answer your original ?....... yes it is worth $800 more than the Mag 325.

I normally would agree with Weedy. The Sportsman 500 is a great value for a just a little more. But you were orginally looking at a 325 Magnum or SP400. In seeing by your signature that your son is only 12, the 325 Magnum will certainly more than suffice. Remember, 16 years old is the rule so to speak. But I have sons too and they like to ride.
Even at 12 kids judgement is not always the best. The 325 is more than enough ATV and safety is the main concern here in my eye. The SP400 is a much better featured ATV for $800 dollars more, but the 325 is too much ATV for your son as it is. I ride a very fast Prairie 650 but still manage to have fun whenever I get on a 325 Magnum. It tops out at 30-35 mph and that is fast for any trail or offroad riding.
For your 12 year olds' sake, weigh the safety issue. I personally would not consider a 325 until my son were at least 16. At that age you can see signs of maturity even though they are still quite immature.
