Hi all, I'm a newbie about to buy a sport quad. I found a dealer here in S. California that is selling the 2002 DS 650 for $5,899. I know that this is the quad I want, and I'm going to buy one, but I planned on doing it in a month or so after I get tax money back and I'm a little more financially secure. Here's my question, this seems to be a good deal, but is it such an exceptional deal that I should go ahead and jump on it? Or will I be able to find similar deals again in a month or so? Thanks in advance for any replies.

Ben

That price sounds damn good. I'd jump all over it if you're able. You won't be sorry.

That sounds like a good deal. Are you sure it is a 2002, and not a 2001? What is his "out the door" price (including tax, registration, doc. fees, freight and set up)? Many dealers draw you in with a low price, and then try to tack on a ton of extra fees, so be careful. For reference, at the beginning of last August I paid $6k even out the door for a new black '01, so a '02 shouldn't be too much more than that. (I live in So. Cal. too).

Thanks for the quick replies guys. To tell you the truth, I'm not sure that it's a 2002. I guessed I assumed that. I looked at the add again (it's in the local Cycletrader magazine) and it says "inventory reduction sale". I guess it could be a left over 2001. Are there any major improvements in the 2002 over the 2001? I'm going to call them and try to get an "out the door" cost from them and find out what year it is. I'll let you guys know. Thanks again for the help,

Ben

OK, the bike is a 2002, and they're calling me back with an out-the-door price. He asked me what kind of deal I would need to get me to buy it this weekend, and I said about 6 even out-the-door. I'll let you guys know what he comes back with. Thanks for all the help!

Ben good luck with your new machine. One thing to think about when negotiating price is that you can never go down from your price but you can always go up.... I know it's too late for advice now but something to think about.

Don't forget to ask them for some accesories to go with it, try to get a gas tank, helmet, maybe a tire patch kit, or some other small accessories. I found the dealer had a much greater responce in giving me these things vs. lowering the price after I opened my mouth and told him what I was willing to pay.. Good luck!!

OK, they won't give me a figure over the phone. They said they could come very close to 6 grand out the door, but not get there. I asked why they couldn't just make it 6 grand if they were going to be coming so close. They said go out there and talk to them. So tomorrow I may be on my way to check them out. I'll definitely try to hit them up for as many accessories as possible. I like negotiating with salesmen, it's all a fun game. The best part is walking away when they won't give you what you want and watching them fret as they see their commission disappearing! I'll post again if I should buy this thing soon. Thanks for the help guys,

Ben

In feb. of 2001 I bought a DS for $5900, $6200 out the door. They wouldn't give me any free stuff, not even a spark plug. I bought in anyway, 'casue the best price next to that I could find was $6900! Indiana dealers are overpriced, I got mine in Michigan, sales tax free!
