Stock the 500 Scrambler will pull the 400 SCR off the line and top end. I know 2 people who have 400s and 500s and the 500s are better stock. I would tend to think the Exlorer would be a little less quick due to weight and larger tires. With a pipe the 400 SCR will kick the 500s butt though. So if you put a pipe on your 400 explorer I would think it should beat or at least stay even with the 500 SCR.

I ahve only ridden the Xplorer 400, adn Bill I know you have a SP your about to seel and I think the Xplorer is a much better transition ofr you, and not to mention an better value, you can you minor mods to it to easily beat a 500 SCR, and it has High AND Low gear unlike the SCR's High only. The Xplorer isnt gonig to be much slower, and anyway it will be much faster than your existing Sp 500,

Go For The Xplorer 400

I have a 98 explorer 400 and a 99 scrambler 400 both have RCR kits. The expl. has the white clutch spring. The scr. has the plain color spring in it. The scr. is a quiker out of the hole but the expl. has more top end speed. I know the tires are differnt sizes. I was told the trans were geared differnt. But the scr. pulls harder when climbing hills. Soon to try Delta Force reeds on the scr.
