Sorry, I'm no help either...I just wanted to say how much I miss those old 230 Quadsports and I too would love to know how they would fare against today's play quads. The first four wheeler I ever rode was a 230 Quadsport and though it may be obsolete by today's standards I will always think that was a great quad. It looked awesome then, and still looks impressive to me today.
It's great to see someone still has one and is enjoying it.

I am no expert on comparing quads, but I do own a 250ex and the lt230. The lt230 does have more power and seems wider which means better steering. However the suspension is not as good as the new 250ex, but that means I may be looking at upgrading the shocks next.
I did some custom fabrication to the bike to make it look newer. You will notice in the picture that the headlights are molded into the front grill. As comparing it to the 300ex or the 400ex, I really can't tell you. But they should have the power and the steering that the 250ex is missing.

Great looking light mod, Woody. I'm in the process of putting my 86 LT 230 back together {top end redo}, other more pressing projects seem to keep popping up pushing back the Q-sport job. I put new Maier yellow plastic and added a Goki starter kit to my otherwise stock Q-sport. Before the top end starting smoking, it had no trouble keeping up with newer and bigger sport quads, not faster for sure, but did very well. Great timeless design! It'll look good next to an '03 Z400 in my garage {someday!}. Some nice people on another atv forum gave me a name of a company in CA that had pipe and jet kit for LT 230, but I lost it. I think they go by Timntina. Post in the Suzuki forums and maybe they will reply. I would not pipe it without rejetting too. Someone also said that Cobra pipes were not all that good and I think they make a LT 230 pipe. From what I've read, Supertrapp quiet series would be my choice if they make one for the LT 230.Soon I'm going to make a site {bobcatv8.org--already got it, just don't know how to work it yet} and post pics of the LT. I also added a Honda control pod and 400ex tool carrier to it, no place for tools with Maier plastic. Changed it from badly faded red with ugly gold rims to semi-shine yellow with silver rims/black hubs. Vast improvement in looks! Post some more pics of yours, maybe a front view too, It looks like you are pretty inventive! Keep us informed.

go to DGperf.com. check out their inventory closeout. Look at the Alloly rcm w/ spark arrester. u will see it says $125. buy it. 5-10% guarunteed hp increase, just remember to rejet. that's the complete, w/ headpipe. pretty spankin deal.
LT230 w/ k&n + DG RCM = victory over stock 94 300ex.
