Melting Plastic on 300EX
#1
First of all Hi to everyone here since I am new.
Now the serious business. I just put on a White Brothers E Series exhaust on my 98 300EX and where the header pipe goes under the rear plastic it is melting my plastic. Any suggestions on what I should do?
I bought heat tape from Summit Racing and wrapped it around the pipe, no go. It melted the tape off the pipe too.
Please Help- I don't want my plastic melting...

I am actually on that site now. I think that heat wrap is what I am going to need. Thanks for the tip!
You would think the exhaust manufacturers would included something like this with their exhaust. Oh well.
I'll keep all of you posted! Thanks again to everyone for replying.

Someone on the highlifter board said the header wrap steams for a long time when you get it and the pipe wet and they also said something about eating away at the pipe and having to replace it over time.
I wish there was an easier fix to this issue. I am surprised that no other 300EX riders with an aftermarket exhaust have had this problem.

i own a stock 2002 300ex and the plastic is melting around my pipe too not bad but more than it should on a stock bike so i am afraid if i put a aftermarket pipe on it will severly melt it. if you find any thing let me know how you would solve it.
