I think you can retap or use a self-tapping bolt to fix this at home. Go to the 250rforum@ezboard and search this topic. I'm sure it has been discussed.

what did you do to do this? overtighten or cross thread. when reinstalling bolt spin bacwards half turn or so till u feel it line up and sink in a little then install. overtightening is easy to do if you dont use torque wrench have to be real careful. those engine case bolts strip easy also.

the dude i bought it from must have stripped it out because when i got it it was a bolt not a screw like the pichure in the manual
i checked the oil a few times and it then it stiped out
i whanted to know if i could make it a sight window insted of the check bolt
because it would be so much simpler
if i could get it machined out so i could put a window like on the front brake resivour

It's not like your burning your transmission oil so the site glass really wouldn't be worth it, just take out the bolt everyone once and a while and check it, it's not that hard.....

Just re-tap, and go with the next size up (metric of course).
Remove the case BEFORE tapping. You don't want aluminum shavings in there.
