To be or not to be... Xtreme

I was talkin to a lady today and her husband is a helicopter pilot. A guy at the store I was at, asked how much it would cost to take a helicopter ride to prom and kiddingly (I hope) I said, "I'll probably end up riding one... off the track." And when the lady asked what kind of racing I did, I told her I was a quad racer. She said, "Thats crazy, thats a lot more dangerous than dirt bikes." I said it wasn't really and that bikes and quads both have their easy and difficult traits, but then when I was leaving, I got to thinking. At the tracks I race at, A LOT of the bike riders I talk to tell me that I"m crazy for racing quads and that I'll kill myself. They all tell me I need to sell the Dale and buy a dirtbike because they are safer. BUT, some of those same people will also argue that quads aren't as extreme as dirtbikes... so my question is, if bikes are safer, how could they be more extreme? Using that logic, I should start racing RC cars... that must be TOTALLY extreme right? I mean, if something is considered extreme, it should have a level of danger... it wouldn't be cool if everyone did it. I just don't get how the "safer" thing is also the "more extreme" thing. Maybe I'm just seeing things wrong... whats yalls opinion?

Those motocross riders are thick headed and full of sh*t. I have a friend, and we both think that quads and bikes are equal. That lady was just a woman( ntothing bad about women), and the women who ride are really tough.

Dude, I am a motocross rider. You saying I'm thick headed? LOL, j/k, I know what you meant.
Seriously though, quads are a bit more dangerous. I mean, yeah bikes wreck more than quads, but the bike riders tend to get up quicker then us quads since we tend to go down harder. For instance, a bike goin down in a corner may just be a simple slide out and he'll get up and ride again... a quad goin down in the corner is usually from takin a corner fast and two wheeling and then flipping over. It takes more force to take down a quad than it does a bike, and (DANG YOU NEWTON) that greater force that flips the quad, is also the same force that slams us on the ground. Also, when a bike goes down when landing from a jump, (not counting an endo) usually it's just getting squirly and although it may be a painfull landing, its not as bad as when a quad gets totally crooked and you land so hard that the 50" wide machine starts rollin sideways down the track... like I said, the quads will go down harder.
But my point was, if bikes are safer, how are they more extreme than quads? In my opinion, they aren't. I'm not saying quads are more extreme, because you can get more air on a bike, but I think that neither is crazier than the other. If someone disagree's, I would like to hear your opinion.
Thanks

Oh, and I just wanted to start a good post that actually has somewhat of a point. None of that, "bike riders suck and are all @ss holes." or "Quad riders don't know MX, and aren't **** compared to bikes." because if thats all you have to say, nobody wants to hear you. I started this post in hopes that there are actually people that can have a "normal" discussion without bashing.

I think it's the fact that 90% of quad riders are on 4X4 quads cruisin the trails with a beer in their hand going 20 MPH. Thats why most bike riders think we are less extreme. Most bike riders I run into are nice guys, but the ones that are "weekend warriors", that have the newest bike and think they are hot **** because of it, are the ones who are always dissing on us. Whenever they do, I will hit the biggest jump I can, or at least try and pull some kind of trick and then make them try, if they won't, it goes to show how extreme they are, and if they do, they realize it's alot harder than it looks.

There is no way that quads are less safe then bikes. Come on were on 4 wheels they are on two! Bikes go much faster than quads also. MOST of them do anyway. It may hurt less if the bike falls on you than the quad but thats it. What happens when you take a corner too fast on a bike? SMACK flop over the handle bars into a barbed wire fence or a rock or something.
Lets be realistic here.

Dude, the greater chance of getting hurt worse is what makes something more dangerous.

What? What would be take more force to flip over? A bike that is maybe 4 or 5 inches wide, or a quad that is 50 inches wide? Obviously the quad, and since it takes more force, when you do go down in the corner, your gonna hit the ground harder.
I'm not saying anything is better than the other... I absolutely LOOOOOVE quad racing, but think about it. If you go over the bars on a bike, the bike falls over. If you go over the bars on a quad, the quad usually keeps going... guess where you'll be. If you go down and someone runs over you, what will do more damage: a 200 lbs machine or a 350 lbs machine? When you hit a jump at a slight angle, it won't really throw a bike off since it only has 2 tires that are in-line, but since we practically take two lines, one side will try to "jump ahead" of the other side, which makes for rough landings. When you hit a rough section on a track, bikes won't feel it as much since there is only 2 tires hitting those bumps, but we have 4 tires hitting them which tends to throw us all over the place.
Lets face it, both can get dangerous, but you can't say that a heavier, 4-wheeled machine isn't as safe as a light weight 2 wheeled machine. I'll NEVER give up quad racing though... and besides, you can't make a bike look as sweet as a quad .

Isn't it better to be able to NOT flip?

I agree with that!!

Yes, ofcourse it's better to NOT flip, but you know damn well that you, me, and EVERYONE else that rides WILL flip it over, and when that happens, it's gonna throw a person on the ground a lot harder when they are on a quad, than when they are on a bike, since it takes more to flip a quad. Plus the added "comfort" of having something that weighs 150lbs more stuck on top of you.
