According to Dirtwheels Mag. the 400 2+4 tops out at 67 mph while the 500 4+4 tops out at 65 mph. Add 4+4 to the 400 and I suppose it will come in about the same as the 500.

Jim, Scrambler 400 2+4

I think a 400 scrambler does 65 in 4x4 and 68 or so in 2 wheel drive but well will have to find out mark if it will kick the Lt's *** in a couple weeks and then ill right back but scrambler are the **** so i think it will for sure be right be side it.

SCRAMBLER RIP *** FOR LIFE

oh yea by the way i seen a scrambler blow by a beefed up 400ex today hahah them think are weak!!!

A stock scrambler 400 ain't going to beat a Lt250. The only way it will is if its modified.

if i remember right the LT were geared kind of low and only topped out at about 55 max if it was stock vs. stock in the long haul i think the scrambler 400 would spank the LT250

itman,

i don't know, thats a tough call beacause i owned both. mine was an '85, it had big realtors on it that may have slowed it down too. i hear that '88 was a good year for them. they are snotty. i sold mine and bought a scrambler 400 simply because mine was kinda old, and i was always tinkering with little crap on it. i'll tell you what, not to try to sell you on polaris, but i was surprised. its definitely as fast as my lt, if not faster. i know my lt was bored, and it had an fmf on it. i like the scrambler because i do alot of rocky, and sometimes muddy trail riding. i love the reverse, and the electric start. the only downfall is the weight, but you get used to it. ok, sorry, the lt is an awesome quad. back to the subject.... with mods, i think the scrambler will smoke an lt. they will get up around 42-44hp with a pipe, filter, jet, and clutch mod. i know the awd will effect the outcome too, in awd the scrambler will get alot more traction. there are alot of factors, but i'd have to say that it would be close.

Alright guys, lets stop right now. I own a Polaris and love it. But aren't we getting a little carried away here? A scrambler beating an lt? a scrambler is not as fast as a 400ex.And a 400ex sure as hell can't beat an lt. I own a honda 250r and have raced a 98 sport 400 and it wasn't pretty for the sport. I am not doggin on the scrambler, it rocks, but there is no way it will beat an lt unless its modded pretty good.

Yeah, i had an 85 lt250 (actually it was my parents) and it was definently faster than a Scrambler. I know according to the old shoot outs that all the high performance quads would go atleast 70. and the lt we had could pass cars on the highway (1 of our riding spots runs along the highway)

So... has anybody put a radar gun on a Scrambler 400 or clocked it with a GPS?

i think you guys are getting mixed up between the lt250 racer (two stoke) that was made in the late 80's and early 90's and the lt250 work 4-wheelers (four stroke) that have the racks and is set up more along the lines of work.
