I was one of the lucky guys that got a Cannibal w/ Ohlins and I was wondering how the upgraded Ohlins compared to Works triple rates w/ rezzies. Also, when they are upgraded, they are dual rate piggy backs, and fitted to your weight and riding style right? Is there anything else improved on them?

Narf! I can answer that one! Works are much better than your shocks. If you will recall, I have the same shocks you do, but with rezzies. The Works are much more plush, and ALOT smoother.

 

how could they be? I thought the ohlins were top of the line with rezzies and I thought works are more mainstream shocks mass produced??

 

Uh... David... one of your shocks looks like it is set on a stiffer setting than the other one just so that they are even. You have worn out single rates w/ rezzies. I'm wondering about having mine upgraded to dual rate, w/ rezzies and then set to my weight and everything.

 

The Typical Works shocks and the stock Ohlins that come on the C-Dale are similar - however, the Ohlins hardware is better. The biggest problem with the typical Works shock is the plastic lower bushing. After a while these will need to be replaced continually.

I'd stick with the Ohlins, there is ZERO reason to replace them with Works. I'd only consider replacing them if I were going to a 5/8" shaft shock like an Elka, PEP, new TCS, or Axis.

Stick with the Ohlins - switching to a Works bodied shock would be a hardware downgrade.

As for LonestarBanshee's comments - the things he mentions are all setup issues - not shock design issues. The things he mentions could easily be the other way around given setup changes.

Just make sure whoever does your shocks is a reputable shock builder and you will likely be happy with the results of revalving, respringing, and the addition of reservoirs.

Ohlins are the ones to keep the seals are the best I have seen the oil doesnt get contaminated as soon as any other shocks I have done.The shock setup they did for cannondale is way of for most I am 150lb c class motorcross.I was bottoming out front shocks and getting beat up on stutter bumps.If you dont mind alittle body roll in corners the ohlins light spring with one shim added to compression side works great.Cannondale offers 3spring rates they are cheap.I needed less roll inth corners so I ordered the Works triple rate springs for 250r I had to make dif.crossovers and machine off the step adjuster to make room for the longer spring stack they work great no bottoming cushy ride and the reliability of Ohlins.The back shock seems to work fine for me.Any shock rebuilder should be able to set you up like this.
