Exhaust gas meter
#1
This is probably an odd question, but... Has anyone seen or heard of an exhaust gas monitor that will work on the DS?
The reason I ask is that I read an artical on top pro MX and rally racers. All of the pit crew for bikes, quads, cars ect. use an exhaust gas monitor to tune their engines. The artical even refered to Nascar using this device to set up fuel/air ratio. It was a good artical except it never said where to buy this gas monitor.
Anything will help.... Thanks

Good EGA's (Exhaust Gas Analyzer) aren't cheap and require regular callibration. A Bacharat (not sure of spelling is correct) will run you $5000. They are not specifically built for one quad/car/etc. They simply have a probe that is insert up in the tail-pipe.
The guys with EFI (Scooby) use an O2 sensor that is mounted in the exhaust which constantly changes the fuel/air ratio via a micorprocessor. Can't do this with a Mikuni Carb.
I haven't heard of any easy ways of doing what you are talking about.

Are they reading exhauts temp or the exhaust gases like HC,CO?.You can tune your motor with a exhaust temp gauge and they are alot cheaper.check them out a racepak.com.They make a nice one that would fit right in the console of the DS and it is waterproof can be used on watercraft. It is also a tach

I'm pretty sure they are talking about a portable wide band digital O2 meter. The cheapest they come are around $1000. I couldn't live without mine!

I used to have a Digitron meter on my Alky Banshee. It measured the Tach of each carb and the Temp of each Exaust. It had memory and auto shut down if it got to hot.It was from Digitron in Seatle, Sorry I sold the bike to get my Bomb or I would get more info off of it.It worked very well.
