Decals, and plastic painting for the DS650
#1
check out this picture.I think it is JeffinRivercity's bike, maybe? I got it off atvheat.com I like those checkered decals, and would like to know where to get those, or other decals, like flames, or stripes. I don't know how to make a link, but maybe somebody else could for me.

I also saw a thread on painting the plastic. Can somebody post elaborate instructions on how to do this, and what kinds of paint to buy? Also, give your opinion on what color would look good. I saw a Scrambler 400 with Metallic green painting, and it looked sweet! what does everybody else think?

AdamsBadDS650,
The decals where a last minute thing before my last trip!
I went to a local sign shop, they took a couple of digital pics of my DS,he pulled up some cool looking graphics on the computer...then stetched, widened, copied and pasted the graphics onto the digital pics untill it looked right.I came back a few hours later and it was done.....$86 bucks installed!
He still has the program to make more if I need them.
by the way I used some electrical tape, sawsall, sanding block to cut my rear fenders(I got the idea from Marky)

$86 sounds like a heck of a deal. I have some ideas in my head and have been toying around in some of our programs at work seeing how it would look on the DS. But we dont do any vinyl graphics where I work. I think maybe I might start callin some of the local sign shops around here and seeing what they can do.

I dont know about painting plastics. I have seen some before and they look pretty cool, but I think if you actually ride your quad that painting the plastics would be an excercise in futility.
I used to paint street rods for a living and so I will tell you what I think. Now maybe things have changed (I would bet they have).
To paint any kind of plastic you need to add a flex agent to the paint. What ever brand of paint you use will have their own flex agent to work with their product.
It is really designed for the plastic bumper covers and parts like these. Now, an atv's plastic has to be able to flex much more than a bumper cover on a car. So I dont know if it would work. Well, it will work, but I dont know how long it would last.
I would suggest the vinyl graphics instead for an atv. It makes much more sense to me. Unless it is just a show quad or never sees the dirt.
thats my 2 cents worth.

I hear that Bat, I figured that plastics are not super spendy so why not give it a shot. I figure it will last maybe a year at the most. By then I will probably be tired of Black anyways. Hows that car coming along?

Demon, which car are you talking about?
Yeah if someone wants to paint it why not. I have seen some really cool paint jobs, but they dont last on an atv from what I have seen.
If you research it a little, and talk to some auto paint stores, they might have a better product than what used to be available.
