I have read all of the posts from the past on the 14 tooth countersprocket and didnt find much info. Gary660 said when he switched to the 14 it made his Raptor faster in a 300ft race against a Banshee he used for comparison. Has anyone else tried this against another quad to document results or with a GPS? Mine seems faster to me with the 14/40 in midrange and take off in second on dirt but I was wondering if with the 13/40(stock)gearing if it will pull harder and make more mph in fifth? which gearing have you guys found to be best for drag racing long distance and all out top speed in dirt ?
I just didnt want to have it geared so high that it cant pull rpms in fifth. The Raptor seems to like to lug though and has a lot of torque. I usually shift quick from 1-3 and wind 3-4 and 4-5 seems to work best.

Going to a smaller front sprocket will lower your top-end but increase your exceleration. Going to a larger rear will also lower your top-end. I sometimes mix and match the 2 sprockets to get what I want. If dropping the front 1 tooth is too much I drop the back 2 teeth instead. It takes a little over 3 back teeth to equal 1 front tooth.

If you went 13/40 gearing, you will get more on the bottom and loose some on the top end speed then 14/40 gearing.
For long distance racing I used 14/40gearing with 22"tire on the rear which make the rear running like either 38 or 39 gearing ratio. I don't really care the bottom end. I just after the top end speed. For the dune I just drop the front tooth to 13 and get more of the bottom when climbing the dune hill. I leave the rear alone and use paddle tire.

For Drag racing I don't know. Ask The moose and see what he running the gearing.
