Just found out that the place where the exhaust pipe is attached to the engine is having problems. There is only one bolt that is holding the exhaust pipe onto the engine and supporting it. Where the pipe and engine meet, the pipe has metal that flares out on two sides and there are holes on each side. Only one side is holding onto something.

I thought i just needed to add a screw to the other side but then i realized that there was actually a stud coming out of the engine that the two holes were around and not a screw that went into the engine. Im pretty sure the stud cracked off cause there nothing protruding out.

Can anyone please tell me what needs to be done to fix this, how hard it is to do, and how much you think its going to cost me to fix.

All replies are greatly appreciated. Thanks everyone!

if your not at all into working on things I would have a mechanic do it, any competent mechanic can.

if your gonna do it:

You'll need to remove the exhaust header and take a look at the situation.. check if you will be able to get your drill into the area to drill out the center of the stud. if not I would go to a mechanic.

If it looks like an easy shot to get into the stud with a drill, get yourself an easy out or a screw extrractor from sears and an appropriate drill bit. soak it real good with liquid wrench the entire time. you drill out the stud some and put the easy out in, its reverse thread and will bite into the stud if the hole is deep enough. It should come out with a little effort, it too much the rest of the stud will have to be drilled out and the hole retaped for a new stud. I cant see a mechanic charging more than $40 or so for it unless the motor is really in the way and has to come out of the frame

man somebody else got to it while i was typing but any way
go to sears (or whatevere tool stor you prefer) amd tell them you need a e-z out they come in a set or you can buy them singley (i Would advise buying set) then once you get home drill into the stud be carefull not to drill to the side it has got to be in the center and once you have got the hole drilled insert the the e-z out if you buy just one you will have to buy the wrench for it and twist

thanks for the help guys. The stud it a little hard to access. There is a tube from the frame directly in front of it. I think it might be worth it just to have the guy do it so its his *** if he screws up. Thanks again guys, you were a big help.
