Back from St.Anthony's w/ RWR 45mm & Skat Trak results!!

Ok, I had a really great weekend up there in St. Anthony! Lot's of good findings! First off I would like to thank Bat and his friends for there hospitality, they are a great bunch of guy's and gal's. I would also like to thank Neil,Brenda & Steve Hoopes who I went to high school with and haven't seen for years, who I ran into up there and who have A couple of nice DS's. I ran into them when Neil's DS after just getting a new crank put in it got towed into camp by a Raptor! Bat and I didn't like that. Turned out it wa Neil getting pulled in by his brother Steve. He was having backfiring probles through his carb, he thought he had skipped some teeth on the cams but we figured it out. Just some crap in his fuel bowl that was plugging up his main jet. The weather was awesome it was raining a little on saturday which made traction great and Sunday was clear and beautiful and only 77 degree's out! AWESOME! For findings on the Skat Trak paddles check my post on SKAT TRAK WAR'S! As for the Ron Wood's accelerator pump issue, just leave the damn thing out! There is good reason why Don leaves them out and that is because you can't lean out the pump nozzle enough to have all out good performance. Yes you can get rid of that Blah which I did, but it make's the midrange 2 rich. I suppose if you want to futz around with it for a good couple of day's you can dial it in somehow but it really isn't worth the aggravation. I gained more with out the pump and I had a wonderful time. So if you just want the pump so you can flash your cool exhaust sound around camp go ahead and put the pump back in, but otherwise it's not there for a good reason. And by the way who is up for St.A's this weekend! Let me know so we can get the ball rolling! It is suppose to be in the mid 80's there this weekend a lot better than a 100 degrees any were south of here. Good Luck and ride hard!

Hey it was nice meeting you, sorry I could not go on the long ride with you guys but sometimes thats how it goes.
Had a lot of fun riding up there. Nice temps and the dunes were a lot of fun.
We ended up riding back over to the blm area to check out the camping area for comparison. Not much over there. Just for your info.
I cant make it back for this weekend, but have a good time.

Ok demon, I just have not had much time yet.
But here goes.
The dunes are a lot of fun, we camped over at the sand hills resort, so we were a little ways from the big dunes.
This weekend was my wedding aniversary, so I had to keep that in mind as well.
I enjoyed camping at the resort, but the guy that runs it is a stickler. We got along fine, but if you dont follow the rules then it would suck. If you like to night ride stay somewhere else. I was heading out and he stopped me. It was like 5 minutes till 10pm and 10pm is when quite hours start and you cannot ride in or out of the camp. I did not realize what time it was, so I had to go back and park.
Anyway, the blm area is right next to the lake and close to the big dunes, but I heard some horror stories about idiots over there. I dont know personally.
Compared to little sahara, I would say the big dunes at little sahara are like the smaller ones at st. anthonies.
Little sahara is a much larger riding area, I think, but the dunes area a little smaller. I enjoyed riding some of the bowls over by thunder mtn. I never made it over to choke cherry, so cannot comment. I wanted to, but my family had to come first. I had a lot of fun camping and spending time with the family.
I really like both areas for different reasons. They both have their highlights. This time of year, I think that st. anthony is much better, because of the temps. It was nice to be able to sit out and enjoy a little breeze. the temps were great. I think upper 70's to lower 80's.
ummmm, not sure what else to say. I had a lot of fun, but when I go back it will be for more days.
any questions shoot them out.

If I were in charge of a big gathering of Ds's It would mainly depend on the time of year.
This time of year I think st. anthony is the best. The dunes are huge and a lot of fun, but you have to be careful, a lot of razorbacks and drop offs.
If it were earlier in the spring or later in the fall, Little sahara would most likely be my choice. It has large dunes and trails and something for everyone.
In the winter months, I would have to say dumont, or one of the glamis areas (i.e. buttercup). Obviously in the winter months, you cannot ride up here or in idaho or utah, well at least not sand. So, those areas would be better. But, those areas also have very large numbers of people visiting. I think st. anthony did not have as many people, and therefore the riding was better, less chance of running into someone.
I have not been to sand mtn nevada yet, so I will let you know what I think when I get out that way.
Another thing at st. anthony is that there was not much dust. At ls over memorial weekend, the dust was nasty. I think that the wind blows more and everything is so dry down there that it is just really dusty. But it did rain up at st. anthony, so of course that helped with dust. So, maybe it is not a fair comparison.
Hope that helps.

Well I have yet to visit LS, and definatley no offense to you Bat, but Bat didn't get the opportunity to make it over to the Bigger Bowls and Hills. Thunder is only about half the size as Choke Cherry and Devils Mtn. And as for the dust question? No Dust. It isn't a dusty place at all. For crowds, temperature, bowls and hills I think there isn't a better place than St. Anthony. But of course that is my opinion. You know what let's see if we can get Marky to post and opinion poll on the best overall dunes! I think that would be a some what fair account. How about it Marky, you feel up to that?

Bat,
when you rode over to the BLM area was there any camping going on at all? I believe it was you that said there was construction going on. Would appreciate your response as my time of arrival is nearing as we type.

The only construction going on over there is nearly finished for now, they added a bunch of restrooms of which only 2 were open this last weekend. No hookups at all at least not yet. When are you heading up there?
