wshrdskin,
There was really no construction going on at all. They are putting in some restrooms, but as for camping there is space. It is primitive camping, no services at all. But you can pull in there and it is close to the lake and bigger dunes.
I said in my earlier post that I did not make it over to the really big stuff. But that was ok with me. I had a lot of fun with my family and friends, and I was happy.
You guys can argue about which is best, but I say they are all fun. If you want to get technical, I think glamis was the best I have been to, but I have not been there in about 8 years.
Demon, what are you planning. DS days?

Thanks Bat.
It was the dunes topics that we were discussing the construction on the BLM campgrounds. Glad to hear it will not be a problem for us when we arrive. As for those that argue about which dunes are better. Heck. I'm so new to the duneing experience that each time I ride in the Dunes it gets better and better. Pismos dunes are small in comparison to Glamis (The only 2 Ive been to) and Ive had progressivly more fun each place I go. The more comfortable I get riding the dunes the better it is. Any sand to me is a blast. As far as chokecherry goes, I don't know if I'll feel comfortable climbing it or not. I'll have to wait and see what it looks like. I'm cuurently looking for a Got Sand sticker. I'm 40 years old and feel like a kid in a candy store when it comes to rideing the dunes. LMAO.

wshrdskin, Yeah I remember the topic. When I called the blm the lady said that there was limited camping, because it was all under construction. But that is not true, maybe during the week it is more torn up or something.
I did not see any construction equipment at all. The bathrooms they are putting in are over in the parking area, not the camping area. From what the signs said you are not supposed to camp overnight in the parking area.
I thought it looked like it would be fun to camp over at the blm area, because it is close to the water. The only problem I could think of would be the bugs, and if there are some wild parties or something.
I did talk with some people at the resort who had horror stories of rowdy people causing trouble over at the blm area. I dont really know. I might try it next time. Just not sure. If anyone camps over there, maybe you can let us all know how it is.
I have a family and a small boy and dont want to deal with a bunch of idiots.
Have a good trip and be careful. The drop offs are pretty big out there and sometimes hard to see. They had to take a girl out in a helicopter on saturday, she apparently hurt her back.
Ride safe and have a fun trip.

Thanks for the tips Bat.
I also have a family and 10-11-17 year old kids. I don't like hanging around a bunch of rowdy drunken fools either. I'm sure there is people partying there from time to time. As long as its civil I won't mind to much. I doubt that its an every weekend occurance. Probably was an occassion (al) thing and has been blown out of proportion. I will post back what I think of the BLM but it won't be for almost 3 weeks from now.
The dunes scare the crap out of me. LOL. When we went to Glamis for our first ever trip to the Dunes I was shocked at all the drop offs and how hard it is to see them sometimes. We never ride up and over until we know whats on the otherside and cruise slow through unknown areas. Thanks for the headsup. Best wishes to you and yours.

AngryBajaBoy, did you make it out to the famous dunes - Chokecherry, Devil's Dune or Dead Horse Bowl??? If so, were you able to make it up Chokecherry?
Bat, glad to hear you had a good time. Next time you go, you should try to go all the way out to the aformentioned areas. The size, steepness and variety of the dunes is amazing; some are like giant valleys. Every time that I go to St. A's I find some stuff I never ran across before. Also, you're right about the drop-offs and razorbacks. You're probably pretty used to it from Rock Springs though - that place has razorbacks that will cut if you step on them. Wyo, I fully planned on making it over to chokecherry and the others, but sometimes things get in the way. Had I been up there without the family I would have made the trip. But my son would not let me.
Anyway, next time I will get over there. I did have a lot of fun though.
But, if I were going back it would have to be for a little longer. It is too far of a drive for just one real day of riding. I did a little riding on sunday, but then I had to pack up and head out. I need at least 2 solid full days of riding to make it worth the trip again.

AngryBajaBoy,
I guess you are going to give up on the pump for the 45mm rwr carb.
I don't know if this would work or not but I'm going to lead solider the nozzle jet and re drill it to a smaller size that should lean out enough. What do you thing?
I'm still waiting for Ron to send me the Nozzle.

<< Hey Wyoduner,
Yeah, I made it up Choke cherry, Devils, ETC, but only in second gear. Now the task is to be able to get up them in third! Were are you heading this weekend? >>
Cool, those are tough hills when the sand is soft. I run chokecherry in second (mostly) or third (sometimes if the sand is good). I will be heading to the basement this weekend.... Remodelling at an extremely slow pace. I do want to head back to St. A this year but who knows with everything else there is to do. I also want to get back to L.S. Utah this year.

Hey DSdude, I see that you will be in LS this weekend, that's awesome! I would have to say I think you have a good idea about that nozzle, but that is a wicked tiny hole! You may have a hard time finding something that small. I think that the pump can still be utilized with a combination of Needle and pilot jet changes, also clip position changes. It is just a matter of having the time to spend on the test and tune you know? Eventually when I have a little more time I will give it another whirl. Looking forward to meeting you, we can talk some more on this issue then if you like. Take care and drive safe. Thanks, Tony
