What to do???

Ok, here goes...
My local dealer has what I believed to be a 2002 Speed. So I go to check it out and possibly buy it. Turns out that it is a 2001, that they could not sell, so it was sent back to the factory, and given all the updates to be transformed from an '01 FX, to an '02 Speed. It still has the '01 frame, were there any changes made between the years, and is there the possiblity that it has the "old" motor in it with the bad bearings in it?
Now, technically, it will be registered as a 2001, but they didn't make the Speed in 01, so if I were to buy it, then possibly sell it, I would have some probs, because of this. They are selling it at a reasonable price of $6800--.
Is it a go or no go???

That price doesn't seem too reasonable to me for a fx400. My dealer has one in excellent condition, (tires and plastic look almost new, and the plastic is black!) Thex are ASKING $5800. I'm sure it could be bought for less. Just my opinion.

Tell your dealer that refurbed FX's were being sold as Cannibals, not Speeds. Also, if I'm not mistaken the titles for these quads are listed as 2002 Cannibals but have a note about them being factory refurb units. When these quads went back to the factory all updates were done so if there was a bad bearing Cannondale replaced it. I'd question the dealer a little more and if he insists that it's an FX400 refurb that's now a Speed I'd call Cannondale and report your dealer.

Yeah, he's def. messing with you. I have one of the Refurbished Cannondales. The title will show 02 Cannibal refubished. I payed $5,000 for mine. It should have red plastic on it. If it's the silver plastic, then he has a old FX400. He might have all the updates done to it, but it's still going to have the old engine and the MC500 computer.
Mine came with the hydro clutch, new engine, new plastic, new tires, and all the updates to the chassis.
