Moto 440 !

Waitin' on my Moto 440. Sorry but I'm gettin' impatient over here. Playin' ATV Fury every night just ain't cuttin' it! BTW, ATV Fury part 2 will be out in November! I don't know if you guys play but it's a cool game to hold you over. On another note something I was thinking of.The Cannondale rep told me that the recommended fuel for the Moto 440 and all the the Dales for that matter is 93 octane. What I was thinking is that if the current maps available will let you get away only 93 octane fuel and 12:1 compression then there is DEFINATELY more power available if you run higher octane. VP C-16 for instance (118 octane). That's what I run in my 347cid, Igloo, G-Force 5-spd Z-Trim'ed 95'Mustang (25psi of boost). What I'm saying is I think(know) that if you put the C-16 to it you should be able to get real aggressive with the ignition timing! They're not going to tell you that though. Hopefully I will be able to get the diagnostic equiptment/software and fool around with the tables a little. Although I'm sure the racing team is already doing it. Has anybody been playing around with fuel and custom mapping? I'm interseted to know. There's a lot of power waiting there.

No he didn't say you couldn't run the high octane fuels. I asked "what kind of fuel are they are running" (this was on the demo Blaze I rode)and the rep said "93 octane". I only asked the question because I knew that the advertised compression is 12.5:1 and I realize that with the current technology/high efficiency combustion chamber designs available you can get away with some pretty high compression ratios but we're talking 12.5:1! That's high! And that's great that the thing runs so good on pump gas but you have to realize that they don't have the timing set on "kill" if the bike is running 93 octane. Think about it like this......How would Warren Johnson's Pro stock run if they passed a new rule mandating 93 octane fuel only. Now his car is an apple and we're talking about an orange but rest assured when you increase the compression (to a certain degree) the end result is more cylinder pressure which equates to more HP. That's exactly what Cannondale has done with this particular engine. Now this only works as long as you do not allow any pre-ignition/ detonation to occur. So what they do is design the the fuel and ignition timing so that the engine will run on 93 octane. It's kind of like what we do on the EFI Mustangs with superchargers installed. As the boost increases (cylinder pressur) we take a pre-determined amount of timing out per pound of boost to avoid detonation. It allows you to run higher cylinder pressure by means of the supercharger but still run pump gas. BUT when you put the RACE GAS to it you no longer have to pull out ignition timing! That's when you start making REAL HP! Ultimately what happened to me was once I got a taste of how the car ran on race gas I never went back to pump gas (lost too much power by doing so). Now setting the engine up so it will only run on race gas is certainly not for everyone but with the "On the fly" adjustable tuning option you could conceivably store a MOTO 440 MAP, a "Full Tilt Boogie RACE GAS Map" and a 3rd map of your choise. I'm probably carrying on too much but it's just my opinion.

DUDE! Lay off the caffiene Just kidding. I'd be stoked to if i was waitin on a moto!
I use the 1000cc quad on Fury, and my boy still beats me on the polaris!
Go on with that race gas stuff, cool.

The only reason they said not to use race gas was because the o-rings swell up in the quick connect fittings blocking fuel flow the fix is to find some o-rings that dont swell or remove the o-ring from inside the fitting if you do that the fuel will come out every time you remove the connector from tank.Congrats on getting a moto if I were doing it again I would get one even if I had to wait I cant wait for you comp. whizzes to get into programs and I am sure it will only be amatter of time before N.O.S,blowers,turbo are put on the cannondales just think you already have a almost unlimeted supply of fuel delivery already.

I didn't realize that you had to make changes to get the advantages of race gas... I thought you just pour in the gas and there you go. I was talkin to a guy at one of my races and thats what he made it sound like. I'm not the smartest person when it comes to fuel injection systems, and if I was givin a motor to rebuild, it would probably never run again ... sorry if some of my questions seem dumb.
Cannondale27's reply just made me think of desert racing for some reason and it's a bit off topic but if the "Glamis" gets a bigger gas tank, would it be extended under the seat or would the front plastics get a design change and the tank comes up higer infront of the seat like on the R's and Ex's? Just wondering if anyone here has heard something that I haven't.
