is the z faster then ex
#2
Well, I have only ridden the ex but from what I hear the Z is faster and would be a better choice for the dunes. I ride a lot of tight trails so the ex is excellent there. I still may look at a Z in the future though, after some of the bugs get worked out. I would suggest riding both and then deciding, but if you can't then you would probably like the Z better in the dunes.

I have a Z with a yoshi pipe and stock tires. I have a friend with an EX with a pipe and ALL-TRAK tires. A size or two bigger( more top speed). Last Saturday night a bunch of us went riding. After we got done, we were about 5 miles from home and we raced ***** out for the 5 miles. DEAD even. If I had the size tires in the back as he does, I'd have smoked him in a big way.

Go with the Z the EX is way underpowered and the motor could have been something that came from the 50s. The liquid cooled motor in the Z is far more advanced and efficient. A simple pipe and jetting change can get around 40HP out of it. You'd be lucky with high 20s with the EX, maybe 30. The motor is already proven and the chassis is basically a copy of the EX which makes it a very good quad. But I agree with mega crash, if you want something for the dunes then get a banshee. 2 strokes are meant for the sand.

what does that mean? either one of my 2-strokes will whoop a Z anywhere, every time im on this site i hear people "which bike is faster which bike is faster" if there 400's that all dam close if there 600's there dam close, if they handal better is the real question and if you can ride is the next because if you cant go get on your Z or banshee or whatever and put someone who can on a blaster or ex and there going to beat you in any real rase. 80% rider 20% bike

Duh. He didn't say that his Z was faster than a shee, he was saying to get a shee if you plan on duning only. Read a little closer, and you wouldn't have to ask. Second, I also agree, a Shee is awesome in the dunes, but that's about it. Try trailing a modded shee; just be ready to smoke your clutch. Try draggin a Z against a modded shee, apples and oranges. They are excellent quads in their own respects.

All true.
In a drag on a good traction smooth straight a stock Z is very close to a stock Raptor, actually neck and neck untill you run out of gearing on the Z then the Raptor slowly pulls away. In the same race a 400EX is somewhere in the dust, way, way, way back there wishing he had bought a Z
