In 5th gear, topping out, a 400EX with 14 tooth front sprocket and K&N type filter can pull away from a stock Z400.

When I get my K&N type filter, the story may be different.

the Z400 is neck and neck with a stock banshee or actully a stock banshee with K&N and 14th front sprocket. in every race up boxcar. it was neck and neck sometime the Z would win sometimes the banshee. in a longer race though the banshee will pull away since it has 6th gear.

my girlfreind's ex has the 14th front sprocket and k&N and the Z will pull it all day.

Corpsie,
That would be a little surpriseing. In my experience so far the only 400EX that was able to stay with me had a big bore kit, pipe and carb.

i rode my banshee every where (before i finshed my R) trails track and did not "smoke my cluch" if you know how banshee's build power and how to ride them it's fine anywhere anyone that says banshee's are just for going stright either has not had one or modded it to much for anything eles or just cant ride. and i see stock Z and stock banshees draging in silver lake every weekend and a stock Z can not touch a stock banshee.

Im thinking you must be watching stock Z's dragging modded Banshees because I had no problem beating one over and over again. I actually liked the Banshee quite a bit. We swapped off and had the same results. When these things are stock they are quieter then my Z. Lots of power too, just not much till the motor starts winding up. Not bad handling either, not near as bad as people say. It was a lot of fun on the tight slow wooped out trails I was rideing on at the time. The dirt we were in was so loose that you basically just kept the wheels spinning on the Banshee and kind of steered it through with the throttle. Lots of fun.

nothing is wrong with your Z, people are just over talking the "new sport quad" because it is the newest one out in a few weeks it will be the predetor that "cant be beat" by all the people that buy one. not that im trashing the Z it sounds like a great 400 4 stroke, but thats what it is a 400 4 stroke nothing more nothing less. im glad that people are buying them and others and having fun in a great sport, but top speed does not matter unless ALL you do is drag. the Z is a 400 it will not beat a stock raptor or a ds or a banshee with out $$$ but give me the money and ill make a blaster beat all them too.

80% rider 20% bike.
CT330=90%bike 10% rider 0% brain.

By the Z, you will not be disappointed. But for dunes only riding the Z does decent, better than an EX any day. Plus Im buying my wife an EX next week, so Im not terribly biased.
