I've done it on my bayou and it tuned out pretty good. Just sand the old paint off, and make sure you rough up the metal. Then get some primer, spray them good, then when they are dry, use the highest quality spray paint you can get. The cheap stuff chips off fast (I had to do mine twice). They wont stay perfect foreve, but mine have stayed nice for 2 years now.

Powdercoat. The guy that does my powdercoating is cheap. So I do not know if your area will be the same price. He done a set of two white spoke truck wheels (done in black for my MT slicks) for $30 including sandblasting the rusty things, and setup fee. A lot of powdercoaters won't charge a setup fee if they already have the paint in their gun.
Powdercoat is awesome. Brake fluid can't even eat it. I washed all of my parts in parts solevent as soon as I got them back. Powdercoat can't chip, flake, or chalk, but it can scratch. They can also do a clear coat powdercoat if you want.
