Can't Deside.....Lakota or Mojave
#1
Hey.... I've been looking for a new ATV and I narrowed my choices down to the Lakota or the Mojave.. Now I want a quad that has power, speed and a lot of reliability ( Always starts, Low Maintnence) So I'm asking for the opinion of people who own these machines or know alot about them...Which is faster and has more tourqe??
Thanks alot guys

Manual clutch or auto is what your gonna want to ask yourself. The Mojave is a little quicker. Not sure stock for stock, however, my friend has a '01 Mojave with WB E series, 13 tooth cs sprock, K&N, and jetted. He beats me by about 1 1/2 lenths IF he gets the jump on the start. If I get a better start I can usually beat him. For tight woods, trail riding, I like the auto clutch much more. The Mojave does seem a lot faster when you ride it. I thought it would spank me. We switched quads and results were the same. The Lakota fools you. It doesn't have a "hit" to it, but it's much faster than it seems. After a few mods. are done that is.

Ok so your saying that the Lakota would be a better all round machine that has speed and power but the Mojave would be pretty much for racing......How does the Lakota do in water, mud and jumps?
Oh also wanna know too is the Lakota reliable like it always starts??
Do you know the top speed around?
thanks

In last falls entry level quad shoot out the lakota consistantly post quicker track times, don't that bite, lol. Yup and thats stock for stock. I also ran both in a woods course and I found the bottom end of the lakota is what pulls it ahead of the mojave. But don't get pissed at me just letting you know what I found, still love them both.
Top speeds, lakota about 53.....mojave about 56
They are both bullet proof, no question there in both machines.
The lakota seems to have softer suspention. In a mag they said the lakota had better suspention, I don't know about that. They seemed like the same machine when you ride them. The motor charictoristics is what makes them different. The mojave is a high revving machine with most of the power at the mid to top end. Where the lakota has power rite off idle and doesn't rev out nearly at all.
They are both pretty even all the way around. Basicly identical machines with different motors.
water, they both are pretty good.
Jumping, heck I've jumped the heck out of both of them. I have no issues with either jumping. Alot of poeple tell me you can't jump nor race niether, I take it they never road niether.

Hey Gaff thanks alot....I think I'm gonna go with the Lakota because I've been hearing good stuff about them and I like the fact that the Lakota has Electric start with recoil back up whereas the Mojave only has kick......Thanks alot for helping me out guys... I'm gonna try to get a Lakota
thanks
p.s. Gaff, I've been reading your fourms about your races with the Lakota and seems you've been doing well! Good Job Keep it up!!!

Chris,
I can't tell you how much I realy like the electric start. I can't even tell any one how good the semi auto is in the woods. If I thought the semi auto was hurting me that bad I would have converted it to manual by now. The mojave is basicly the same machine. It's just two completely different motors, and thats what you have to pick.
As far as racing one, this goes for the mojave to, I feel they both act close to the same. It takes some practice to racer one. The biggest thing with the lakota is get the gearing rite. I feel the lakota is more forgiving jumping wise. Due to the strong low end has bailed me out of alot of tough spots. The mojave I just wasn't use to and if I wasn't in it's power range it dove on me alot, wich hurts.
I have decided to freshin up my motor in september and keep it a while. I thought about it hard at the track and it realy isn't far behind the other quads. Although a couple friends of mine are coming with some C-dales next week so I may be in trouble, lol.
It's all graet fun racing no matter what your on. So good luck and have fun.

After having a Honda 250x for a while (kick start), I would not even consider a machine without a "button", unless it was just for racing. The Lakota is the "Rodney Dangerfield" of the quads- they don't get any respect, but are a great machine for what they are made for. I saw an almost new one on E-bay yesterday. You might want to check it out. Let all of here know when you get one. Good Luck!
