So I was on a dirt road, flying around the corner when I see some dude in a car with his 12 year old son driving. I lost control and plowed into the dirt embankment going about 30 mph. The Z-400 hit on the right front tire and bent the lower tie rod (or whatever it is called). Now the steering is off and the right front tire points few degrees to the right.

How much do you guys think it will cost to get it fixed?

Thanks,

-Ash

Yes, it did suck.

Does anyone know if they make aftermarket steering tie rods?

yes they do i got mine from ebay just type in tie rods. alluminum billet from cfmperformance.just a heads up. i had a crash on the same idea as yours and checked over the bike and noticed that my frame is bent and my stem is warped. so look good. my bud has a 400ex and i noticed they have a lot more reinforcement on their frame unlike the suzuki.oh and i have to replace my tie rod. now i know all the mags have put out great reveiws on the speed and how great it keeps up and how much faster it is compared to the others, but after this (what i would consider to be an easy crash) i would like to see them compare frames and their durability. i am questioning all of these things, i have seen some bikes do cart wheels and come out with less damage than i have. yes i still love my "Z" i took it to my dealer and they r going to look at it. oh heres a good 1 for everybody 1 of the guys looked at it and said "jesus the the tie rod is half the size of the frame tube no wonder why these tie rods keep breaking" "KEEP" that scared the crap out of me...hmmmm food for thought. i want some reveiws on the frame and how that is going to stand up over time.

especially after years of jumping on the MX track, that requires a well built frame, mabey they'll change it '04. sometimes that's the problem with a new quad, but they work good don't they??

Go anti-vibe if you have to buy another stem. It will handle much better and you will have less fatigue. I don't know about others, but Timmy Boy Designs made mine with a larger diameter chromoly tube for better strength. I also had mine done with a +2 so I could run Tag T2 bars which are stronger than stock and give slight play to absorb hard hits.

I believe it costs about $299 + $50 for chrome. My friend is a dealer so I get everything for wholesale. Call Tim for exact prices.

I crashed my Z today, I hit a jump and came down verticle and hit the gas by accident. The Z went about 10 feet on the grab bar but it didn't bend. I did however break the damn tail light so looks like i'll be ordering that this week. I was doing some pretty aggressive woods riding today and Z held up pretty well I did hit a tree coming around a turn but I was going pretty slow. We'll see how she does after some more abuse. Oh and the woods were very rocky and the Z took some pretty good hits w/o bending anything.
