My friend has a 400ex and we cant seem to jump start it in gear. I am also looking to buy a 400ex thats why im interested. I heard that there is a saftey device so that you cant jump start the 400ex in gear. I also heard but im not sure if its true if you cut a certain wire the saftey device is deactivated. Is this true hope to get some replies.

do you mean jump start (jumper cables off of your car batery to batery) or bump started (pushing your quad down a hill and putting in gear or polling it with a robpe behind something)

The clutch switch up on the clutch lever is your problem.

Take the switch loose from the lever and put a paper clip in the connector which "ties" the two wires together.....completing the circuit.

Now you start in any gear. When you get a new battery, just remove the paper clip and reconnect the connector.

He said maybe you just need a bigger hill also PS honda250rider, you can't hit the start button if the battery is DEAD!!!! good try though

Dirtmomma I was thier with crazyspeed8 and we tried jumping it a good 15 times going down this kids driveway(and definatley had enough speed). we tried from first gear-third nothing worked. everytime it seems like it wanted to start right up and it wouldnt. The wire indeed was the problem

for where we ride jumpstarting is a good thing to be able to do. when we come into roads that we must ride after the hills and its flat we bump start them and start driving, we try to have them off as much as possible. Also since the ex doesnt have anyback up starting system if something messes up with the starter or whatnot how would be get home? none of us even have a utility quad to really tow us back home. so in our case bump starting is a neccesity.
