well i was looking on the honda forums and this guy was talking about having to have a title for your quad. well i bought my quad off of a friend (coworker). he said that you did not have to have a title for your quad. since i don't remember ever having any for my past dirt bikes i believed him. the quad is a 2000 same as sig. he gave me a written reciept. that is all i have. the vin # are there. and i was wondering if anyone from indiana could help. he said when i gave him the money that he would pay the quad off. got my quad and he said the bank sent him nothing except like a letter or something, saying that it was paid off. thanks guys or gals. You might be screwed.

I don't think you have to title a quad in Indiana but he should have gave you the statement of origin from the manufacture. The original owner who purchased the quad would have had this sent to them in the mail from where he purchased the quad.

If you trade the quad in you could have some trouble proving ownership.

Just have someone you know at a bank or other financial institution run your VIN number.

Only then will you know for sure. After you do that, get back with the guy you bought it from and go through the neccessary steps to get a title in your name.

Laws vary from state to state whether a title is mandatory.

The best place to get info on the laws in your state is by calling your local dealer and explaining the situation.

Good luck.

I live in SC and I bought a atv in GA.GA does not require titles and the dealer did not have one.But I wanted the title for collateral or come trade in time. The GA dealer offered no help since it was not required in his state. So I went my local dealer, gave hime a NOTORIZED bill of sale.W/in a week he had a duplicate MSO from the manufacturer.I was then able to get a title from SC using the MSO.

Blazenwarrior, I'm a police officer here in NW Indiana and as far as I know quads do not have titles they have a certificate of origin. Just have your buddies on the PD run the vin that way you will know if it was stolen or not. Remember if it is stolen they impound it. I copied and pasted the Law pertaining to Titles and Certificate of Origin's in the State hope it helps you out.
