How much can a 250x be bored?
#1
Hey,
found an '87 250x for sale. it's been bored 60 over. and it needs carb work.
how much can a 250x be bored out? as in, if this engine needs to be rebuilt again one day, is there going to be enough of it left to bore it again? and what size would 60 over make it?
thanks,
bigmac

Well...060 oversize is 1.5mm larger than the standard bore of 74mm.....this gives you a bore size of 75.5mm
Using the formula to calculate displacement, you have an engine with a displacement of 257cc [stock is 246cc]
You can only go .080 oversize with the stock sleeve as far as I know.
Powroll, Four Stroke Tech, and Curtis Sparks offer good big bore kits for these engines, but will require a new cylinder sleeve.
