I've never rode a 2 stroke quad. I keep hearing about having to "always be on it" with a 2 stroke and wonder if a 2 stroke is a good choice or not. I'd been leaning towards getting a 2003 Blaster (I'm 5'6, 155 so small size is NOT a problem). Are they hard to ride at low speeds? Assuming non-stop aggressive riding, how long will a tank of gas last in the Blaster? Where is the best place in NJ to buy a new Blaster? Are there any other new sport quads (2 or 4 stroke) in the $3,500 range worth checking out? Is the Honda 250EX a good comparison or is a chain preferred over shaft drive? Is the Polaris Trail Boss 330 worth looking at? Thanks!

A stock Blaster is a very rider friendly bike. You won't always have "be on it." It's easy to ride at low speeds, etc. A tank of gas will last a reasonable amount of time. First question is, are you set on buying new? I may suggest getting a friend who is knowledgable about atv's or motorcycles and look into getting a used (stock) Honda 400ex (4-stroke). This way you have a quad that is very easy to ride, very fuel efficient, with plenty of possible mods as you become a more able rider.

I've searched for clean, stock used bikes and haven't found any yet. I'd also prefer to take advantage of the good financing deals available on new ATV's rather than pay cash. I'd only be willing to spend $2k cash for a used ATV. Anyone in Jersey know of any good deals?

I believe that the Honda Red Hot Summer deal is still going on. Special financing options are available. See what kind of deal you could swing on a new 400ex.

Hey 750, I have been dealing with Rizzon's cycle(Suzuki) in Middlesex NJ. They have been pretty good compared to most dealers. I know of 3 other local dealers. Greenbrook cycle center (yamaha, kawasaki) seems more like a car dealership than a bike dealer. I went in there with a few thousand dollars cash when I was buying a new quad and was basically ignored. Action Yamaha in Metuchen turned me off when I was looking at Blasters and I saw the guy working there putting the quads away. He was starting them up, not warming them up(in winter) and repeatedly stalling and restarting them, as he brought them in side for the night. A big no no IMO. There is a Honda dealer on 202 down in branchburg, but they don't budge on price at all. A few freinds of mine have done well going out to dealers in Pennsylvania, but I like to buy from a dealer who is local, so I can count on service from them. Take a look at Ebay motors in the ATV section, you may find a deal there. Also, if you go to the suzuki, honda, yamaha or Kawi web sites and punch in your zip code they will direct you to the closest dealers.

bsb64-

I purchased a Ducati at Rizzon's a few years ago. Yes, definately great service. I thought they only sold small kids ATVs though but it's been a while since I've been there. Thanks for the tips. Is there any riding in the S. Plainfield area? I recently moved to Piscataway.

Rizzon's is now a Suzuki dealer. A buddy of mine rode with those guys as a kid. They are real good guys. Suzuki has a sport/utility quad called the Ozark that is supposed to be the best in the 250 class @ $3500. As for riding areas I hit a lot of the wetland areas around here. As you know if it ain't wetlands it has been developed by now, damn shame. I joined a club in PA called Tower City. It about a 2 1/2 hr ride but they have thousands of acres so it is worth it for me to ride legally. Supposedly Pisc. has a 40 acre lot over by the Mobil station on Randolfville rd. I never rode there, but some kid that hangs with my sons goes there with his dad. The lot has a for sale sign on it, but people ride there I guess.

Buy a four stroke. Less maintenance. A neighbor owns own a Polaris Trailboss 330 and I have ridden the machine. Excellent machine for the $$$$$$.

DO NOT BUY A four wheeler without reverse! The Blaster does not have reverse.

Get the blaster, it'd be perfect for you. I ride in jersey the blaster is alright for tough and steep hills in the woods. No, you don't have to "keep up on it" i had one and kept it nice. its a good quad for the money and stock blasters arent bad. sorry to say the jersey dealers are really bad but play hardball with them. good luck
