The Blaster will much faster than a 250ex. I find most beginners 'out grow' the 250ex pretty fast because they quickly find it's limits. The only blaster I would personally consider is the new one because of the brakes. With the new brakes, I think it becomes a very good choice to start with because it has amazing mod potential. OTOH, 4 strokes are generally more friendly to a beginner. I grew up with MX dirt bikes and started as an adult on quads. The first quad I got was a warrior and I got bored of it pretty quick because of the power-to-weight ratio. I then got a 400ex and absolutly loved it! It had plenty of power to make it fun yet, was a friendly powerband. I put a WB slipon, K&N, jetted it and put on a twist(It feels natural to me). It really woke it up even more. The moral of the story is to pick something that will be fun and flexible so that it will grow with you capabilities.

BTW I sold the 400ex a few months ago for $ reasons and have since bought a Z400 and I love it even more
