one more time. when i let off and it pops or backfires slightly, what does that mean? (lean?/rich?) i tried a search but couldn't find anything concrete. it's not a BANG!!! just slight popping during decceleration. thanks in advance.

Richie, Turn you mixture screws 1/4 turn counter clockwise (out). If that doesnt help give it one more 1/4 of a turn. DynoJet says that the max you should have to due this is 1/2 of a turn on the screw. Oh, and by that way. 50 Percent of us here have or have had the same problem.

I had that exact same problem on my wolverine. Slowing down at righ rpms it would pop till I got stopped, I screwed out my mixture screws seemed to help a little bit, but wasnt right. I found out the exhaust was leaking arond the head, so small of a leak I couldnt even feel it. I got some high temp sealant retightend all the bolts, it works now, no backfire. Hope this helps.

Check all connections for a vacume leak. If no leaks then richen up the mixture screws slightly.

today i was finally able to get my quad out to my mom's and ride. IT WAS HORRIBLE. this is what it was doing.....when i would accelerate real hard it would almost shut off. i don't mean like i explained earlier. this was any gear.
when i would peg the throttle it would sputter so hard i could tell it was eventually going to die. the engine would not even try to catch up to itself.
keep in mind the jetting is 160/165 and a big hole in the lid and one in the rear with no snorkle. well i rejetted to 165/170 and tried it. same. i tried to go up a steep hill and went dead. i had to charge the hill to make it.
!!!then i removed the lid it almost completely went away!!!
so what i guess i'm saying is the jetting, even with the modded lid, was way too rich. i think the floats still need checking. to be honest, i really don't see how the floats adjust.

one more thing. when i added the pipe i jetted according to the yoshi suggestion (150/155) but with no holes like it called for. and ran that for a while. well when i had my new piston and cam installed i looked at the stock piston and it had a black burned looking spot on top. WHAT WAS THAT? is it normal?

The poping is normally called a "Lean Backfire". Turning the screws out will richen your mixture eliminating the backfire.
