when you say that your quad almost dies when you nail the throttle, there could be two problems, too much fuel or not enough air your jets are too rich turn them down a little bit each time you ride until it revs free without smoke or hesitation. and the backfireing may be cured by this aswell.

<< The poping is normally called a "Lean Backfire". Turning the screws out will richen your mixture eliminating the backfire.

Jetting can be a Royal Pain in the prostate!! I am currently looking to purchase a meter that I can use to properly check my air fuel misture.

its too lean...with the exhaust and the cut air lid and better airfilter you need more fuel to go with the air. just keep fiddling till you get it right...

but, i don't understand. if it's too lean why did it start running better when i decided to remove the lid today. after i jetted it i went down the road and nothing had changed. then i decided to remove the lid and i started running alot better. would that not make it leaner?

when i said it was running better i didn't mean quicker. i meant it was actually running. lol. it was night and day between having the lid on and off. as far as just being able to ride without all the spitting and sputtering. i'm trying to get it to where i can ride with the lid on because of the muddy conditions we'll be riding in soon. screw it. i'm going fishing a while.
