Has anyone ever chromed their frame? Just woundering if so, how much will it cost. Thanks

 

Having your frame chromed will make it brittle. I wouldn't advise it.

 

Try podwercoating the frame it is more durable than regular paint a solid color is $250 and a two tone like silver vein is $350 i have had my complete Quadzilla podwercoated it still looks new after 4 years of ridin the bike i paid $900 for the total podwercoating that was frame/arms/swing arm/and every little piece of metal on the bike everything is either polished or podwercoated it looks great

If you are interested in powder coating, I have a local company that does my frames, a-arms, swingarms and other odds and ends for less than $100. Last one that I did was $70 for frame and swingarm. They do as good a job as any other frame I have every seen powdercoated.

 

$100 bucks? That's cheap, what is the name or number of the company? I just put my quadracer completely back together, after repainting everything, but it may just come back apart to get this done to it for that price. Later

Chroming your frame won't make it brittle, it is only a coating on the steel, not imbedded or part of the steel. Heat treating a piece of steel causes a hard "shell" like coating that is actually part of the steel, like a heat treated gear or something. Companies make Chrome-Moly frames and they are stronger than mild steel, without cracking, but I am not sure if they heat treat the welded areas or not. I would assume they do, considering the forces exerted on the welds after a huge jump. Basically, the more chrome added into a metal, up to a percentage of around 12 to 13% is considered a chrome steel, higher and it is a stainless. Chrome actaully gives it a higher strength and wear resistance, but going to far with it, and it can be made brittle or improper welding techniques. Chrome dipping a frame will not do anything to it at all.

 

well i know that when u are gonna try to screw in any blot u r going to have to retap the holes just like i and everyone else i know did. when i did my a-arms i dint know that u could leave the grease fittings in and when i went to put them back in it wouldnt fit so i have to retap the holes and when i did so the chrome chipped around the hole. also on my swingarm in the tight areas the chrome didnt come out good simply because thereisnt enough space for the chrome to fit into and it doesnt come out smooth and as shiny as the rest but it still looks good. its your decision but chroming doesntmake it weak
