Warranty Issue on Belt
#1
Took my quad in today to my dealer. I bought four new tires and while it was in had them do a complete fluid service. Not that I can't do it...but it was there, so why not...
Anyway, I told them the belt was squealing on take off, and I could feel it slipping. The owner told me that they would adjust it, but it would cost me, as it was NOT a warranty issue. I told her I had the extended warranty, and she said that usually did not cover belt issues at all. I explained that Kawi had had alot of belt issues, and I had heard of others getting their belt replaced under warranty. No go.
I helped the shop guy unload my bike, and mentioned the belt issue to him. He looked at my odometer (391 miles) and said the belt should be replaced. I asked if it would be under warranty, and he said yes, particularly since they adjusted it once already.
I figure I am not going to make an issue of it until I go back to pick it up and see if it was replaced. I am particularly peeved because I am spending $500 on tires and toys (EDIT NOTE: $240 on tires...I rounded up figuring the oil change and tax. This note is for my wife, who read my post and freaked!!! ), and they want to hammer me on a belt!!
Have any of you had your belt replaced under warranty? Should I email Kawi and get the factory rep involved?
As always, thanks for your input.
BTW.....I am getting the 26" 589 MS's. Thanks for the advice NYROC.

I had a belt replaced. In fact, my belt slippage, that i took into the dealer to have adjusted prior to the problem, eventually led to what the dealer said was severe grooving in my clutch...which had to be replaced as well. They informed me that the belt was not covered under warranty and it was a wear issue on both parts and would cost me $700 to fix. Kawi was no help and there response was that you should only ride the quad in high past 40, up to 40 you should stay in low...i still have to laugh at that one. My quad had 500 miles on it...after calling everyone 2-3 times and pushing the issues that the quad only had 500 miles, the dealer supposedly had checked the belt and clutch when i had it in previously, and the point the dealers mechanic and kawi couldnt agree on the speed to ride the quad in low...dealer mechanic said it didnt make sense to ride it in low past 25...they finally flipped the bill and replaced the clutch and belt. With all the problems and this being the flagship big bore quad i personally think they should take responsibility and come up with a new belt or at least support their loyal fan base by replacing them free up to a certain mileage and making dealers aware of it. I love the bike, used to love kawi but have lost alot of confidence in them lately...for awhile i basically couldnt get anyone at kawi to talk to me once i mentioned belt. I would get the 650 again despite the problems if i was buying new. Machine is awesome, very versatile, and performs so well. Also, when i posted i received a reply from a dealer or someone that works closely with kawi and his reply was that he couldnt believe i had so much problems as from what he seen kawi was really helpful in supporting their customers with belt issues. Man, let me tell you they were not with me...talking to them was like talking to a wall...good thing their design team is making good performing products. I quess in a rather lengthy story I am telling you persistance prevails...good luck.
