Today while I was riding I notice my little red light on!!! I shot the engine off and checked my engine out to see if any leaks had occured, I couldn't find any. I just changed the oil about a week ago and it is starting to take a long time to start up when its cold. The fan is on after about 5 minutes of riding or just plain idleing. Has this ever happened to anyone before and if so did you do any type of damage inside the engine. I checked all the fluids and they are all where they are supposed to be.

You said you just changed your oil, the manual says to bleed your system. If you didn't do that, it may be air in the system. I know in the manual it says that after you change the oil, if the red light comes on, your system needs bled. I asked a question about the bleeder system and the reply was that it was needed on 2000 & 2001 models. Try that route. Hope it helps.

Get a big properly sized Screwdriver or grind a small chisel to the right size and be ready for a tight screw. I have not heard anyone ever say their screw came out easy.

Don't even mess with a screw driver, go to an auto store and get an impact driver to loosen that screw. Too many people have stripped the bolt trying the screwdriver and vice grip method.

Good call Jimbo!,Yeah a hand impact driver is the best 15/20 dollar investment you can make! No more stripped out screws! They even remove those pesky little carb bowl screws!

That screw is the tightest one I had since

I was able to get mine off with a large screw driver but, the impact driver is a better way to go.

I think only the 2000 DS needs it after an oil change. I usually do it anyways since it gets a bunch of the dirty oil out so you get a more complete oil change.

Bom2000,
You said that the fan comes on quick and its hard to start when cold. These are signs of lean jetting.
The red light staying on all the time is what everybody is referring to when they talk of bleeding the system.
Sounds like two different issues that need checking into.

Does the 45mm use the same jets as the standard carb?

How much gain did you feel you got with the larger carb alone? (If you added it that way.)

Are you running the carb mount K&N?

If so, I am running a 185 (I think, could be 190)at 4000'+ elevaton. It seems rich on the bottom end and lean on the top end. I may try playing with the needle (drop it a notch) and jetting up one size. Anyone else experience this? I am going by feel so I could be wrong.
