I am currently in the market for an ATV, and I was wondering what opinions there are out there. I am probably going to buy the yamaha raptor, but I don't want to jump into the situation without some opinions. I have trouble with motorcycles (falling off) and figured I would get an ATV. I was told I should get a Warrior but I think once I learn how to ride I will want something faster like the banshee or raptor and I don't want to have to sell the thing and wait to get the one I want.

(I also don't want to die.)

Also what other recommendations do you all have other than Yamaha?

First off
What type of riding? Trail riding, mx, dunes, and/or racing. How much can you spend?
These are questions that you first need to answer.

I think the top sports quads right now are:

anyone of the cannondale's
GasGas 300 (unknown do to just being released) (2-troke)
z400/kfx400
400ex
raptor
ds650
predator (unknown do to just being released)

Trailriding I would go with the z400, cannibal, 400ex, or raptor
Racing I would go with a cannondale or GasGas.
Dunes I would say Ds650, raptor, cannondale, GasGas, or Banshee.

For more info on the GasGas read my post in the Cannondale forum (Gas Gas quad update)

Well get the raptor for trails, banshee for track and if you want something a lot worse then both of the above get a warrior.

I have an 01 Warrior, I bought it myself I'am only 17, had it for less then 6 months and I'am already looking for a shee, or Raptor. The thing is needless to say an old person machine, has a granny first gear, can take jumping to well, hehe, broke the motor mount on the top of the cylinder head, and the back one somehow, and had to buy a new swingarm becuase I put stress cracks in the original. It also overheats when riding wide open fields.(somehow the exhaust pipe melted through my airbox without even touching it!!!

PROS: reverse for moving the 400lb beast, Electric start to get its a@#$ out of bed,
CONS: no clearence for travel in the rear, braking motor mounts, stressing swingarm

This is a fairly good quad though, It always starts up and runs great, its just not the type of quad I expected it to be. Its great for joy riding through the woods, and eating a few trees from time to time. but I got used to riding it quick and need to upgrade NOW!, I'am selling it and using the money to buy a raptor or banshee not sure which, any advice??

Well, I am going to look at a 2000 Yamaha Banshee this weekend, he wants 4000 for it, I am going to offer him 3500.00 cash and see what he says. The only modifications he has are, Nerf bars, front bumper, and Renthal Handlebars. What do you think? Should I do this or not?

Well, I looked at Kelley blue book, a 99 banshee is worth $4025, so a 2000 wouldn't be much more, since your buying from a private party not a dealer, I would say yes, offer him the $3500.00 unless it really is mint shape doesn't look like its been beaten up. I think I'am going to buy from someone else not a dealer, $4295 for a 99 with some beat up fenders sounds alittle high to me!
