Dock strike, Where's those Christmas Z's and Fugi motors for the Predators gonna be?
#1
This dock strike could really screw things up. Even for Polaris, as the Predator motor is made by Fugi in Japan. No big Kawasaki too. This could be a crappy Christmas.....

Talks are to resume today, we will see what happens. the Impacts are huge and far reaching.
I work at a Acura dealer, and we aren't getting any of the Japanese made cars ot parts. the engines for the cars made in the Us are sitting on a boat too. The group that owns the dealership, also owns 2 Lexus dealers, all of there stuff comes from Japan. When the cars are all gone that is it. then the service dept. has to carry the dealership through the rest of the wait.
But worst of all is Alaska, everything comes to you buy boat. They have provisions for a week at a time.

Uhmmmm....I doubt that. Maybe a few towns but not the whole state. I live in a remote town but not an isolated town. There are a few small towns around here that are isolated but they live for 6 months without supplies. Then when winter comes in the winter road gets put into place and they get their supplies again. Also Alaskans can get their supplies from Canada through use of planes.
Do you think people in Alaska line in igloos? I liked how alot of people in the states thought that about Canada.

Take it easy man I am not some ignorant 12 y/o. I was watching the news here the other day and some body from the Alaska state goverment was on there and that is what he said. I was up in Petersburg in June for a week of fishing and bear hunting, and from what I saw and was told by the guide, everything too big for a plane is put on a barge and goes throught the inside passage. I watched two barges a day go by the lodge loaded with containers, cars, trucks, tractor equipment, you name it. S.E. Alaska has a lot of places that are only accessable by boat or plane. So tell me how does all that stuff get up there from here in seattle when the longshoreman are locked out? I understand that a lot of stuff gets up there via the highway.
Do you have any idea how much more it is going to cost and how much longer it is going to take to get the huge quantities of goods from Seattle to Anchorage via the highway? You obviosly do not.

They will just buy it all from us, your friendly neighbour, Canada. Ship it up from the Yukon or BC. Or you can get some Canadian boats to barge it up to Alaska. We promise not to rip them off to badly.
They wouldn't need the tractors or trucks or cars, just the food and clothes which all fits nicely on a plane. Once the strike is over then the people can have their conveniences back.
Also if things got really bad and they needed a tractor something or some big thing like that, then they have these big planes. They can haul tanks, so if they can haul tanks they can haul tractors, cars, busses, you name it.

Uh huh and the economics of all this are not an issue at all. The fact that there are contracts between companies in both places. Or the fact that there are thing needing to be done right now that cant be because the goods arent there but are paid for.
Hmmmm maybe you do live in an igloo. You have no clue what the economic impact is. Do you?

Hmmm....lets pretend I live in Alaska in an igloo. I'm eating my last can of beans because we are out of food, the strike has been on for 3 weeks now and we can't get any food because our country will not send us food. Good one.
You know money is only paper, it means nothing when it comes to these situations. But people think money is all that maters, when times of need come up like this one, if they are desperate for food, money holds no value and people do what people gotta do to get by and help out.

You are correct money is all that matters, that is why the docks are locked down. The union members are afraid of loosing there jobs to technology, The Union leaders are afraid of loosing their union members who pay their wages via their dues. An lastly the PMA wants to put technology in place to streamline operations and cut costs,(save a buck). Do you think that the savings made by the PMA will be passed on to you the consumer? If you do you need to watch the news and see how corperate greed has affected the stock market.
Now as far as food and medicine, nothing is going to stop people from getting what they need to survive. But when you cant buy things you need to fix your car or boat whatever it is you use to get back and forth to your job. You have a problem. See, as a store owner you take advantage of supply and demand,(increased prices = more money in your pocket). Now you cant afford to fix your truck because the parts are not available. Or too exspensive. So you cant go to work to make money to buy the food you need to feed your family.
Nobody is going to starve, but a lot of people are going to have to pay more for things they need because of this. Supply and demand. It is all about the all mighty dollar.
Alaska will be affected hard if this goes on for more than a month. but nobody said they would starve. But it's going to get exspensive.
It has already shut down automobile assembley plant in CA because they cant get parts off the boats. Do you think the owner of that plant is going to pay workers for not building cars? No.
Do you think that the Manufacturer of those cars will try to get thos parts unloaded in Mexico and shipped up thru the mexico border? Maybe, but the customs costs will be very exspensive to him. That is if the teamsters driving the trucks that he will need to haul those parts choose to do so. You see unions will stick together. And they probably wont move those parts.
Sorry to ramble but yes it is all about money, at all levels.

From what my inside sources tell me at bombardier is that Fuji/Polaris bought the rights to build and use the 500CC preditor engine from rotax. Which is a good choice since they started with a tried and true engine design. So maybe if this fugi dock strike come into affect they can just bolt up some Rotax 500 DOCH engines until they start moving again.
I hope for all of you guys that this whole thing starts moving. It could take awhile.
