#1
I have a 86 TRX 250r and I want to know what all U have to do in order to get a pilot top end on a trx bottom end I am going to use the pilot carb and everything and get a custom LRD pipe I know where I can get apiot cheap but don't know what's reqiured to do this. would this be a good setup for MX. also is the odesey 350's 2 strokes or 4 and are they liquid cooled? any advice would be greatly apprecaited thanks

This is mainly a set up for drag racing and hillshooting and I dont think it would work well for mx. It takes some pretty extensive modifications to the cases to do it right. FTZ specializes in doing this. You should probably check them out. www.ftzracing.com

I know that dustins racing in portland, Or. does this modification to the trx250r's but i do not know what is all involved in doing it. You might want to try to call them and ask what is involved with doing this mod. I don't know their number off hand but, i could find out what it is for you. They also did a conversion with a banshee that caught my eye they used a js650 jetski cyclinder and fabricated and worked it so it would fit on the banshee bottom end not stock of course.

ODESSEYS ARE 2 STROKE AIR COOLED MOTORS. YOU WOULDN'T WANT ONE ON YOUR TRX. IF YOU WANT TO GO WITH A BIGGER BORE WHY NOT JUST GET A 310 OR 330 KIT. THEY ARE TRIED AND TRUED BOLT ON PARTS. WHAT EVER YOU DO GOOD LUCK TO YA.

I just checked out FTZs page. That TRX400R motor is one bad looking mother @#$%*! It looks water cooled also. If I were you, I would go with that kit and be money ahead. If you already have the 400 cylinder maybe the price will be less. Keep us posted. I'd love to here from someone thats ridden a quad with that engine.

CT has a 410 stroker kit for the 250R why don't you go that way? I am sure that the porting is better in that cylinder and they also have better cooling. The cases of your bike would need to be machined to fit the sleeve for a new cylinder and the crank would need to be stroked. This is probably not a mod you would use for racing, because it would be a lot to handle on the track. You would be better off with a CT330 or CT350 kit. Just think about what the Pros use for Pace 330-345R's and they say that it is all they can handle. Have you ever seen them interview Tim Farr after a Pace event when he just got done with 20 laps on a 330R? He is dead tired! I think a lot of people underestimate the power of the 330 kit! It is definitely a lot for an amateur. By the way, another plus to the CT kits is that you can get the cylinders Nikasiled, which means that they never need to be bored.

The 410 kit does not stay together. You will make about 5 min of running time before it will explode! The pilot conversion is a sand drag motor. That was its intended purpose and thats all it will do. For MX, built a trick 250. A true 250 that is surounded by every goody available will be all you will want on the track. Not many people can handle those 310's or 330's on arace track. The pilot conversion is the fastest set up right now for hill shooting, it will easily blow away those 410's, but like I said, its a hill racing motor.
