400EX swingarm on 250R
#1
I have an '86 310R and was wondering if the 400EX swingarm could bolt up to it? I notice that it looks close in the front with the spilt mount to the frame but how abou the rear axle carrier width? I want to shed weight as well as shorten the swingarm for better hook. Any help would be great. Thanks,

Hey CT,
A 400ex and 250r bearing carrier are interchangeable. You'd very supprised how much is interchangeable. As from the swingarm, the 400 arm doesn't go completely across. Part of the pivot rod passes through the motor, so you'd have to make somesort of aluiminum spacer. I'm not sure have much different the width is at the mounting points. Hope this helps.

Actually the pivot rod passes thru the engine on both the 250R and 400EX.
The width is the same, the only problem I could see when matching the EX swingarm to my 250R was that the 250R seals would not seal properly on the EX swingarm. I didn't have 400EX seals to see if they would work.

Sorry should have been more clear, the original poster was talking about an '86 model....
Good info though!

Just a little warning on the 400 swingarm. If you are one who can push the bike to its limits, I would not recommend this swap do to the large problem with the 400 swingarm breaking. We race the GNCC's and have broken 4 of these swingarms in the last year. Just something to keep in mind.
