What would this machine run like if the Cam was bad? I have been trying to figure out what is going on with it and I finally pulled the valve cover. when turning it over the intake valves seem to move alot more than the exhaust valves. I am just wondering if the cam may be the problem. What are the distanced that the valves should travel so I can check them? I have heard that cams were a common problem in these years of polaris's.

I have a 95 425 magnum and your problem sounds like my old problem. You stated before that your limiter switch was maybe bad, I thought mine was the same problem until I clipped the green wire from the reverse overide button and it fixed all my problems. The mechanic at polaris said sometimes it will mess up and cause different problems.I am sorry it took me so long to tell you before you took your motor apart. Hope it works.

If the exhaust lobe is worn down, it will idle OK, but as it revs out, it will loose power, and not run very well. Also, at higher revs, it may 'burp' backwards into the carb from time to time.

Thats pretty much what it does. It seems like it blows fuel out the back of the Carb. when reved up I almost bet that is what is wrong with this thing. It sure seems like the intake valves open much more then the exhaust but by watching it crank over.

If you have the valve cover off you can just look at the cam lobe and see if its bad. Compare it to the intake lobes.Charlie
