Yes it will work. I bought a strap wrench from Sears to get it around the housing because a regular wrench wont fit. It is a tight squeez, but it can be adjusted with the skidplate on. I have a polaris skid plate. It is a pain getting the strap wrench between the housing and the skid plate, but just be patient. Ohh. and be careful tensioning the chain. Too tight and the chain will break. The broken chain will most likely crack your gear case when it snaps, or too tight can even cause stress on the axel bearings and cause them to start making clicking sounds and wear funny. And one other thing, watch your chain tension after you start riding. It is been known for the skid plates to keep the axel bolts from getting tight causing the chain to get slack in it after riding for a short time. Good luck.
