I was wondering about what kind of engine swaps you guys have done into an FL350. I read a hint about a FL500. I was wondering which 500 engine you put in(CR, snowmobile, etc.) I was also wondering if the rear suspension/u-joint setup had to be changed with the extra power. Also, has anyone tried putting suspension from a quad on the front?

The CR500 conversion is normally done to a Pilot which has a 79mm stroke, the same as a CR500. An FL350 can be stroked to 79mm using an offset splined pin. There are a couple places that can do this. One of which has done several, if interested, I'll dig up that info. The cases require modification because the bolt pattern is not the same. The place experienced at stroking the crank won't do the case mods. Trinity said they could do it, but could not give a price without sending the motor first so they could see what was required. CrankWorks was also willing to do the whole job but needed more specs on the stock parts. If interested, I have a CR500 engine that I bought to do this conversion.

A Rockwell or JLO 440 is fan cooled. It would not take long to melt down in the summer. They are two different brands. I had a 72 JLO with four bolt heads that melted down constantly and a 75 Rockwell with six bolt heads that still has the original pistons in it.

Hey if you would use a 12v fan on the motor like the vw setup will this work and stop an air colled motor from melt down. Also if you did u an air cooled motor and took breaks to let the motor cool down would this help. What do the dune riders do with the kawai 750 tripple 2 stroke motors that are air cooled do a hill climb and shut the motor down.
Also if you used a scoop on the top of the oddesy frame to direct air down to the motor would this help. seams that the motor is behind the seat and does not get enough air like the setup of the 250/300ex the air circulates properly.

Snowmobile engines are kinda tricky to use in the summer time for anything, they either have thin cylinder walls or no water pump, just a thermo syphon system and the fact that a snow mobile is designed for cold wheather is supposed to run in the snow, not hot wheather. I would reccomend using an old air cooled CR500 cylinder, having trinity do the machine work and while they're at it porting and polishing the cylinderand adding a 41mm carb. You can also get a better clutch kit, modify your airbox, add a K&N air filter, use smaller rear tires for lower gearing and you would really be surprised at how much a new set of rear tires helpes performance on anything. And for better suspension go with works. I'm doing everything but the cr500 cylinder except for better looks I'm using a DG Xtreme pipe and Kromelite slencer.

The place that does that CR500 conversion is ATV racing in Phx,AZ,its actually right by my house. And it is done on the Pilot, not the odyssey. They do have some pretty neat machines over there, and they do all kinds of fabricating. If you want to you can check out their website at www.inficad.com/~atv

The people there are really friendly so you shouldn't have any problem.

HAVE FUN!!!

My newest Ody Has a 500cc L/C twin snowmobile engine out of a early 80's Arctic Cat El-Tigre. It uses a heat exchanger pump from a Mercedes-Benz car for its waterpump. I am in the process of swapping in a radiator from a Honda Goldwing 1000,the current radiator is out of a Quadracer.... runs cool until pushed hard for an extended period of time. The new radiator should cure that. The snowmobile motor is tight fit, make shure you mesure carefully before tearing your Ody apart.

You can see pics of my Ody 500 here:

www.4x4tuff.com makes a bottom end that accepts a CR500 top end. They are have mounting plates designed to fit this engine into a FL350.
