Check the manual for API spec's, such as SH, SG, SL etc, and see what it allow's I would think the Amsoil will work as it meet's about all API spec's, I have heard also because of the torque converter in thr Rincon that the thinnest oil you can use the better such as maybe a 5w-30 or 30w, I don't think thicker oil is nessessary in htese newer bike's, I use 5w-30 and 10w-30 in my Pra. 650 and it run's cooler with that better than 20w-50....

whooaaaa........ what a minute....... not in an 03 model, if you already put it in their take it out!!, I run AMSOIL in my 01 F250, my gsxr 750 and my DS650, and can say it is the best out there and they have specific motorcycle and four stroke blends, HOWEVER, its all synthetics and you CANNOT run synthetics till your bearings seat, on street bikes and cars its about 4000 miles minumum! i just started running AMSOIL in my 01 DS 650 with about 70 hours on it and im still not sure it is enough. , I want to run it in my wifes 250ex, but it is brand new, and not broken in yet! Please take my word, check out the AMSOIL website and read up on breakin in new motors, keep synthetics out of their for about a year of ridin minumum, that is my recomendation.

As along as it's notenergy conserving your fine!
What does "wait for your bearings to seat" mean? Leave the oil in, you will be happier on how your machine performs and how it's protected especially in cold weather. jetjock16 has been misguided on synthetics.

I have a 2002 Rubicon and I have been running amsoil 10w40 motorcycle oil and so far it has been the best running I have put in it. I noticed that the tranny shifts smoother and the whinning noise was quieted down a bit when I put it in. I put it in the first time at 65 miles. I love it.

The Amsoil website wrote: Some of the most frequent questions people ask us about AMSOIL are, what is required in order to convert to AMSOIL, how long do I have to wait before installing AMSOIL in a new engine, and what can I expect to notice once converted to AMSOIL?. Here are our answers in a detailed explanation:
Converting a vehicle to AMSOIL is fairly simple, but there are a few things you need to be aware of. First, if you have a brand new vehicle we recommend that you run a short cycle of petroleum oil on a gas engine passenger car or light truck (typically 500 miles) and approximately 5000 miles on a diesel engine in such as a Ford Powerstroke or Dodge Cummins Turbo Diesel before installing AMSOIL.
Breaking in a new engine is the one area that petroleum oil is better for than synthetics. You see, petroleum oil has a very low film strength which is ideal for breaking in a new engine. That is why we recommend you run the factory installed petroleum oil for about the about the first 500 miles. Then drain the oil, remove the factory installed oil filter and then install AMSOIL Synthetic motor oil and an AMSOIL Super Duty oil filter and your ready to go.
RinCon4LiFe - better to know the oil manufacturer's recommendations than to have people make guesses about your expensive machinery!! fatts is right; if you're at Honda's first recommended oil change interval, you should be safe to change to synthetic.

I run Castrol GTX 10w40 in the winter it has get down to -10 here, and I run 20w50 in the summer. your engine won't start or have good throttle response untill it gets really hot if you try running thick oil like 20w50 in the winter, cold weather makes the pour point higher and thickens oil. Run pretty thin oil in cold weather or you will have a heck of a time trying to start your engine.
I agree with JetJock16 100%. don't run AMS for about a year it will cause oil leaks if you do it too soon.
