Default Killing my battery

I have just mounted my blade and am pushing a ton of snow (we just recieved about a foot). But the winch is killing my battery.

I have it run direct to the battrie.

Hello, your stator should be putting out 250 watts on that model ( I think that's right ). If your battery is questionable at all, it wont hold up. I assume you are using it with the motor running. You might need to idle it up a bit to get more out of the charging system when using it. Also make sure your headlights and anything else is turned off to keep from pulling a load. If your winch is designed for an ATV, you should be OK. You see alot of winter there which is real hard on small batteries like that, and if all else checks out, I would change it. Also you can check voltage with a voltmeter to insure it's putting out enough to run it as well. Hope this helps,Bubba

By the way, a 250 watt stator at 13.5 volts is capable of maximum output of 18.5 amps. See what your winch motor pulls. I think you might want to just idle it up some if you can, that might get the results you want.Bubba

From past experience the winch will draw to much power and kill your battery if you need to lift and lower, frequently. The charging system simply cannot keep up. On a long 1/4mi driveway it's not a problem. The typical 2000lb winch, draws about 15 amps with no load. I would estimate about 40-50 amps to lift the plow. Thats a lot of juice. Best bet for frequent lift/lower is to go with the mechanical handle.

TX Bubba, I think that will help to see if the charging system is up to par, but I suspect that Snowride hit it on the head. I am looking after a complicated area that requires a lot of raising and lowering. It is a bit late to go with the manual lift as I have invested a large amount in the system I have, including modifing the brush guard to recieve the sportsman plow system. Just a note for Elrancho, I have heard that the manual lift system is very easy to operate and in fact for my aplication in hind site (*^%#) the way to go. I went with the sportsman system becaluse my neibor has the bely mount unit and has bean calught up becaluse of it.

Sorry for the long reply. But TX again,Gord
